exchanging and airline delays?

with all that went on with jetblue this week, i started wondering about my exchange. i have an exchange week into ocean pointe in march. family from other states is meeting me there. the reservation is in my name. what would happen if my flight was delayed by days. would a phone call to the resort explaining the situation allow my guests to check-in without me??

You might want to call the resort now and see if you can add the other names to your reservation so that they can check in with or without you. I'm not sure all resorts will do this but I've made reservations for friends before at Polo Towers and they've allowed me to add their names to the reservation. Good thing since we weren't even going to be in town that week. It was an owners rental I used for friends of ours.

yes, i know with a regular reservation i can add another name, but this is an EXCHANGE thru II and i believe i must be present at check-in. am i midreading the rules??

Guess I need to put on my reading glasses.

Since it's a reservtion, you may be limited to adding them as a guest certificate for $39. I'd call the resort to make certain but my bet is that's what they'll tell you.

I have had exchanges where one member of my family will check in on a Saturday and I wont be getting there until Sunday. If you call the resort and explain to them ahead of time, most of them would appreciate the heads up. The other family member would need to give thier charge card and then you can change it later when you arrive.

In my particular case the person had the same last name as mine. If they dont have the same name, Im sure you can just tell them what name it is and what relation they are to you, they can put it into the computer. Most flights arent delayed for days;maybe a day or hours. If they are using the condo instead of you....maybe the certificate would be the wise thing to do.

Again this could all depend on the resort. Just call them.

Exactly - call the resort. Some are absolutely religious about needing a guest certificate, some aren't.

If you get an okay for someone else to check in, get the name of the person that told you. I'd be following up with an email to the resort to document it, but that's just me.

okay, i called the resort and they said to call 2 weeks in advance of reservation and they would add my guests names to the reservationthereby allowing them to check in should i incur a problem. thanks to all who took the time to answer.
