So yesterday morning right before boarding for our Cancun trip to Westin Lagunamar, I am sitting at the gate and I hit the search button on Interval, and guess what I see - two bedroom at Grand Solmar just sitting there for spring break, first week in April 2013.

I was surprised to see the spring break week just sitting there!

Anyway, I guess I am going back to grand solmar. No four bedroom presidential suite this time. My confirmation says two bedroom three bath penthouse, I assume this is just a regular two bedroom in their main (non-VIP) bulking, correct? Do they call all their two bedrooms penthouses, or does that have any specific significance, such as a higher floor?

I am happy to go back despite the lack of a swimming beach there, because of all the activities, restaurants close in town, and the quality of the resort.

Most likely you will be in a two bedroom lockoff. Most of them are building E and face the new construction but still very nice. The one bedroom master portion has two bathrooms, the very large master one and a smaller right off the kitchen. You'll have two Murphy beds, one in the dining room of the master suite and the second in the sitting area of the studio.

You'll have two balconies and still nice views, but a bit of a letdown after the Presidential, I'm sure. It is a great location. Have fun.

Thanks Janice. Any idea when construction is supposed to end? Although timelines don't really mean anything in Mexico.

Grand Solmar was on our list and I think we would have matched your week
had we not received this one first:

2 BR March 2013 @ Monarch Grand Vacations Cabo Azul

We had a 2 week request window for the last week of March and First week of April.

In addition to these two we had 2BR at welk and casa dorado at medano beach on our request.

First time to Cabo so we are looking forward to it...

Cabo Azul looks awesome! You will enjoy it, I'm sure.

Adriana, how do you do that???? I check II every once in awhile for Grand Solmar, but never see the bigger units. You've got great timing! We own several weeks there, but always need more units for family.

I just got back from Grand Solmar. I couldn't believe the units that some exchangers were being put in. Some were in the new oceanfront B building, which was just completed - and it's gorgeous. I think the developers want to "wow" exchangers into buying! With a 2BR, you could be placed anywhere in the resort.

As far as construction goes, they are going at it full force. The second B bldg was up to three floors, and is going up to seven. They are already selling units in the A bldgs, so I would expect construction will be ongoing for several more years.

Also, the penthouse is not the same as a 2BR lockout. (I don't know if you will get the unit type listed, or any 2BR, though.) Here is a youtube video tour of a penthouse - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKfcl2SaUTA

Thanks!

I don't know how on earth I found that spring break two bedroom just sitting there, because I have not seen any larger size units at grand solmar since they did that last bulk deposit in the fall.

I am really worried about construction noise, do you think it will be bothersome? After the construction nightmare we had at Grand Luxxe Nuevo Vallarta, I never want to experience something like that again...

The B bldgs will be completed by the time you get there, but they will be working on the A bldgs farther down the beach. That shouldn't bother you unless you are in the back B bldg, which will be overlooking the construction. Anywhere else will be fine. Even the big E bldg will have minimal disruption from the noise, since the new 7-story B bldg will block most of that.

We were in E the last couple of weeks, and had a lot of noise from the construction from one unit up high, but didn't hear it all from our second floor unit. From the pools, it didn't bother us at all. I will be SO happy to have the construction end, though!

Is there a map with the buildings somewhere? I could call and request to be placed in the one furthest away from construction. It's worth at least trying! Thanks.

Adriana,

What did you use to exchange? I am making a few small worldmark deposits with II and I'm debating whether to deposit 1 or 2 bedroom, 4000 or 5000 points.

What do you think?

BTW - great exchange, again! Sorry we're going to miss you in Cabo by one week next year!

10,000 Worldmark credits! I did an instant online exchange, since the unit was just sitting there unclaimed.

Our paths will cross sometime! Not too soon since I am planning something crazy for summer 2013... :)

My husband and I will be at GS in mid September in a grand studio suite, celebrating our 10th anniversary. So excited! What's the likelihood that we could upgrade to a larger unit? and at what cost? Also, any insight on favorite restaurants, golf courses, and tours would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, my husband will have his golf clubs, so if you have any recommendations for a car service, I'd love that info as well.

Thanks in advance.

Tara
