I own a week at the Marriott Aruba Ocean Club. We cancelled our trip scheduled for June back in April/May because of COVID-19. I was informed back then that I could deposit my week for exchange in II and have the flexibility to use the week for 2-3 years going forward (depending of course on availability at any particular resort). We are obviously not using the week this year. I am now looking to deposit my week. Question - what is the difference between a Marriott Deposit and an Owner Deptosit?

If you are asking about a 2020 week which you have not done anything with after the cancellation for June trip, it means that you will need to book something for the remainder of this year and deposit into II. Since it is within 60 days to end of the year, you will end up with a restricted week that can only trade within Flexchange / 60 days of travel and it is good for 2 years from the date of the reservation at Marriott Aruba. Marriott Deposit means you let them choose a week to deposit for you while an Owner Deposit is one where you choose a week to book.

I always prefer depositing an Owner week. Look at the TDI calendar on II and book the highest demand week you can. Then deposit. If you let Marriott choose they will pick the lowest demand week they can.

For a 2020 week, at this point I am not sure if you can even make a reservation in order to use "Owner Deposit". "Marriott Deposit" is one that Marriott selects for you and makes the deposit. They may use a previously deposited week to transfer into your account with II for you to use. I would go with that option.

I believe OP already deposited their 2020 week when they cancelled their June trip last April/May. I think they are planning to deposit 2021 if I interpreted their post correctly.

I interpreted that they cancelled their 2020 week and still haven't done anything with it. Certainly if they are working with 2021, then using the Owner Deposit option is a better option.

Accurate information from both of us depending on which situation they face:p

Assuming you do not have a reservation current and this is a week not points that you have not deposited already, I think you''ll have to have a reservation and then deposit. As noted, it'll be a short notice deposit. Since would be a gold week, the remaining calendar for Gold gives you precious few weeks to chose from, IIRC week 49 is the last Gold week and that starts this coming weekend. In general it doesn't make a big difference if you deposit the week or have Marriott do so. Normally I do it myself so I have control but if I'm talking to them anyway, I sometimes let them do so. There really should be no difference is a normal world other than if you're coming up on a deadline such as the 60 day window. But in this case Marriott may be able to get you something you can't get on your own, esp if you can't get a reservation yourself to deposit that's more than 14 days away (another II cutoff) which I don't think you can for Aruba 2020. I'd call Marriott tomorrow and see what they can get you.

I interpreted this statement as they have not yet deposited.

If you are talking about gold season 2020 deposit ask Marriott to assign you an already deposited week. Gold season only runs thru week 50. If you made a week 50 resie and deposited it now you would only be able to trade 60days out.

Week 50 is this coming weekend, normally II won't accept deposits under 14 days out. I agree, call MVC and see what they can do.

My, how the year has flown by! I hadn’t seen your reply before mine

To OP. If you ask Marriott to give you a previously deposited week remind that it is good to use two years after check in. So if you like to travel in June, have them assign a late summer/ fall week to get the most use out of your deposit.

Edit: from II
Flexchange is a service Interval offers to members who want to request a vacation exchange on short notice — from 59 days to 24 hours before check-in. You can check Flexchange availabilities at IntervalWorld.com or by calling 800-722-1747.

Additionally, you can make a Flex Deposit if you need to deposit your week 59 to 14 days prior to the check-in date (no deposits are accepted less than 14 days before your week). You'll then use the Flexchange service to confirm an exchange

Sorry meant to say week 49 which is the last week of the Gold season for Ocean Club (it's week 50 for Surf Club).
