We are new timeshare owners. I split my Marriott TimberLodge week and deposited them into Interval. I was able to trade the 1 bedroom for Kauai, and I would like to put in a request for the studio for multiple destinations. As I was completing the request process, I noticed that the exchange fee was higher on the studio request option. Is this fee structure normal?

Yesterday - exchange fee for an available destination = $154. Today I started a request for multiple destinations with a unit size upgrade and am being quoted $209 for the exchange fee. I assume this is because I am requesting a bigger unit, but I am going to also get charged again should I get a larger unit? Also, what if I am able to find an available unit outside the requests by searching for all available destinations, will have I have to pay these fees again?

Thanks for helping me as a newbie!

The higher fee would be if you requested non Marriott units in your ongoing search.

Also if you have non Marriott's in your request but get matched to a Marriott, they do not refund the difference. $154 is the Marriott to Marriott exchange fee for non enrolled members. $209 is the regular exchange fee.

and non-US destinations have even higher fees, which won't be adjusted, even you later change your request to a domestic and/or Marriott one!

I don't think non US exchanges have had different fees in more than 8 years. It may be different for Canadians account.

Welcome to TUG!
If you completed setting up the request at $209, then you will have to call II Marriott desk to cancel your request completely. Then set it up again with only Marriott resort codes.
You will authorize an upsize fee, but you don't actually pay it until confirmation.
