Evacuation orders issued for some FL counties ahead of Hurricane Helene

I've been using this page; https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ that our DS told us about years ago. He uses it for planning for probable remediation work.

yes i use the nhc maps for forecasts and such, but nothing ive seen sofar has the live wind speed and rain data as that one above...its very impressive!

reports comin in from tampa/clearwater showing staggering flooding there :(

I live in Naples- there was quite a bit of flooding on various streets near the coast and downtown . Marco got flooding this morning too. High tide is coming again so more flooding is expected. Below is my parents condo at the Riverside Club on Marco this morning. (Over near the Snook for those of you familiar)

Fort myers beach flooded and no power.

At our TS --- they just finally 2 years later completed the pool, hot tub, tiki hut, landscaping and shuffleboard courts about 3 weeks ago and now the water and sand are completely covering the shuffleboard courts and I'm pretty sure the pool will have some damage on the gulf side on Vanderbilt Beach and Harbor Club, this poor resort can't catch a break...

Currently at the Sheraton Vistana Village. It is just beginning to rain. Other than early restaurant closings and activities being moved indoors, no other safety measures taken. They don’t seem to be very concerned.

They announced if you didn’t evacuate to write your name and date of birth with a marker on your arm or leg.

I wouldnt expect a significant impact in the orlando area.

Lots of flooding along the gulf beach roads from Englewood, Venice, Nokomis, Siesta Key, Lido Key, Anna Maria Island, tornado in Bradenton did damage, flooding St Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach and all points north.
Some road closures in low lying areas.

big bend has got to be utterly devastated as this thing rolls through... 147mph right on the coast just now reported

Just heard from our DS before he heads to bed, he says it was a short night & a long day. They are at about a 6ft storm surge in Apollo Beach right now and it is still rising but much slower than it did all afternoon. His dock which is usually about 3ft above water is now 3ft underwater. They ended up with less than 2" of rain in the gauge and the wind is tapering down. He figured when he was looking at homes that the St Petersburg peninsula would help protect Apollo Beach from storms and looking at photos from St. Pete's and Clearwater area it did.

DS's dock, under 3 ft of water, as of 10:20pm;

There are going to be some crazy photos from the big bend area in the morning. I also saw a report that radar is seeing well over 5000 lightning strikes per hour in the outer walls of the hurricane -a quantity almost unheard of. The eye is just making landfall now near Perry FL. Hope everybody stays safe.

Some neighborhoods in my area got walloped hard by storm surge and wind. Boats were lifted into parks, streets and even slammed into houses. All the bridges to the beaches are still closed, the beach roads unpassable due to huge sand deposits. The weather service is calling the surge in St. Petersburg at 6.3', in Clearwater 6.7', Tampa Bay 6.8'.

We lost power for about 5 hours. No tree damage, most people in my neighborhood have removed their large trees to prevent damage to their homes. Too many storms these days to keep large trees anymore. We're very near the Gulf but up on a bluff that prevents any salt water from reaching us. It could have been so much worse here.

Thanks so much @rapmarks , we just received news from our General Manager that both pools are closed till further notice. I so hope at least one pool will be open by the time we get there in December...this is so sad, we just barely recovered from the last hurricane in 2022 and then to get hit again in 2024. I just love Vanderbilt Beach and Harbor Club, so this just makes me so sad...😭😢😥

My storm shutters are not up as my painter just finished painting my house. He is confident that it will pass Lee county but says if the Wednesday morning update is ominous he will put them up.
@rapmarks , did your painter get your storm shutters up, I so hope you had zero damage...

Did they even stack the pool loungers? They did that when Ian went through a couple years ago. Though that went right over Orlando.

Where I live, Helene passed about 90 miles to the NW.
We lost power for ~12 hours (11pm-11am). The house is okay.
Several large limbs came down. One took out a fence section.
I got out my chainsaw and went to work. Only got one done.

I live on Marco Island towards the center of the island. We got zero flooding (no surge for us this time). I kept watching the Residents' Beach Camera and it looked like water came up to the tiki huts on the beach from the debris on the water line.

Glad you escaped any damage this time! Their community room took on water and the docks sustained damage. The worst of it happening at night

Now we just have to make it past this new storm that becomes a hurricane by Monday.

I know!! it’s crazy!! Trying to make preps around the house. My husband is hoping he doesn’t have to put the shutters up!

We closed our shutters and evacuated to a hotel in Zone C in Naples for three nights. Got home Thursday morning and power was on, other than a few momentary brownouts. Internet was iffy. Water rose on Collier and other streets, but none on my street.

We dodged a bullet for sure! I feel badly for those that basically just got done with Ian repairs and had water intrusion….again. Some still without power here in Naples. I think Marco is almost fully restored.

Catching up on reading some of these comments. These hurricanes are stressful and destructive! I feel for those of you who have damage. & disruption. My daughter's college announced Monday morning "classes cancelled Tues - Friday and we really encourage students to leave".

My daughter and I decided she should leave. Was hard to book her flight to get her out as the airline websites were overloaded on Monday. Got her a flight out of JAX. Lots of complicated logistics b/c I was on vacation myself when we decided she could fly to the Midwest to come home.

She made her way back to Daytona Beach last night and her apartment is in good shape. This past week seemed surreal.

@LMD , thanks for sharing - I own at Sunrise Bay Resort Club in addition to Vanderbilt Beach and Harbor Club (VBHC) --- I have not heard from the board or the manger at Sunrise if there were any issues with that resort, but our manger Julio at VBHC has been incredible with on the spot communication and keeping everyone updates as to the amount of damage that VBHC had.

Sunrise is right by Snook, so I'm guessing they might have flooding as well
