Our first time in Kauai. We arrived on Saturday and spent a night at the hotel before checking into the KBC on Sunday. We really love this resort. It has all the amenities of a luxury hotel, including several restaurants on site. This is our first time spending a week in a lock-off unit (we own a 2BR and 3BR at GV) but it's been fine. I like the large roomy bathroom. :)

Another first: it's the first Marriott timeshare I've been at where people didn't get up early to "save" lounge chairs at the pool. There seems to be enough for everyone, and then some. I realize this is off-season or shoulder season, and wonder if it's like this during busy weeks.

We've tried several local restaurants as well as the resort's, zip-lined, took a door-less helicopter ride, golfed, drove to Waimea as well as to some of the waterfalls, and will be taking a sunset dinner cruise tonight.

If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to try and answer them.

I am so glad that you are enjoying this resort. Do you have a nice view? I believe that you were going to be on a higher floor. Please, post a picture if you can.

It is a great resort and we really liked it too. Don't you love that pool and I hope that the breeze is back. It was really hot when we were there in September as there was no breeze at all.

Will the sunset sail take you along the Na Pali Coast? I hope so. It is so beautiful and so is the Waimea Canyon that you did already. You will see the Waimea Canyon Lookout point from the boat.

How did you like the helicopter ride? Were you lucky enough to sit on the outside and be double strapped in? I was that lucky! :)

You may already know about these, but we found Duke's (a very quick walk to the right down the beach) and Beach House (get reservations for seating about 45 min prior to sunset, then enjoy!) to be our favorite two restaurants on Kaua'i....... sunsets viewed from the BH are as good as it gets.

We too loved KBC....the pools are as beautiful as any we've ever encountered, and the long wrap-around veranda is charming, and remains a favorite memory.....we spent a lot of time hanging out there in the different sitting areas in the evenings, listening to the piano player. And our view from room looking out over pool>beach>ocean bay>mountain was a post-card view if ever I've seen one. One of our favorite properties. Very jealous.

If you get a chance to drive to Hanalei Bay/Princeville and Ke'e Beach, do it.........

Napali Coast tour by boat is great, too.
We found the experience by boat to really give you the feel of your insignificance in the face of that magnificent and glorious range.

That is because it is a luxury hotel. KBC is only a part of the property. I think the property is fantastic as a luxury hotel resort, not so much for the timeshare units themselves.

Another example of your fine taste in restaurants, Marty. Duke's is also our favorite restaurant on Kauai. Have never be to the Beach House but we will have to try it next time we are there.

Ok, you asked for it: here is the view from our studio:

The weather was hot, HUMID HUMID HUMID, and without breeze our first two days here. I thought this wasn't the place for me. I was sweating like mad thinking this was almost as bad as Aruba (which I thought was what hell must feel like) but one rainy Monday evening, when a front passed through, and things got much better after that. Still hot, but NICE hot... still humid, but not unbearably, and plenty of nice breezes (i.e. tradewinds).

Captain Andy's Sunset Dinner Cruise was simply amazing. They served steak and shrimp and the entire staff worked very hard to make everyone's trip as fantastic as possible. I recommend them whole-heartedly. And yes, we went to the NaPali coast, then the sail was raised and we sailed with the currents while dinner was served. After dinner the engines were again used to get us back, just past sunset.

We loved Duke's (upstairs, although downstairs wasn't bad, either). It was our favorite meal so far. I've had (shared with DH) 2 slices of Hula Pie so far this week:

We probably won't get to Beach House in this trip. Tonight we're trying Gaylords. We go back home tomorrow night, :bawl:.

[I can't seem to get my pictures to post. Can someone explain how to do it? I put them on picassa, and clicked on the photo icon and put in the URL to the photo, but it's not showing up. So I added the links]

Congrats, that's a very nice view and makes me miss Kauai! We haven't stayed at KBC but were next door at Kauai Lagoons and I loved looking out at those mountains with the waves crashing on them.

Is this an Ocean-Front category room? What building is it? Do you mind if I post this in the View from a Balcony thread?

Thanks very much -- enjoy your trip!

Best,

Greg

Beach House is terrific, we've been there twice, most recently with Puck Family in 2014. It's a breathtaking spot with excellent food.

Best,

Greg

Greg, no, this was not ocean front - it was listed as ocean view on our reservation/exchange. I was EXTREMELY happy with what we ended up with, especially considering we're not owners here and got this "OV" room via an Interval trade. We are in the Kahili Tower, 9th floor, room 986.

Yes, feel free to repost it in the balcony view thread. I would post it there, but as I said in my note, I don't know how to post pictures, only links to them.

Thanks for sharing the photos. Very nice view. We will be staying there for the first time next June and are looking forward to it. We have been on the property and eaten at Dukes (downstairs). Really enjoyed the view and the food.

We have also been out by the Beach House, but haven't eaten there. We will have to try that too.

Mike

That is a cute picture of you and you had a beautiful view. :) I found the instructions how to post pictures on TUG by "swift".

It was very hot and humid last year also in September and we have decided never to go back to HI in the summer. We like to leave our doors and windows wide open that we can do during our fixed weeks in March and April.

We also enjoyed Duke's upstairs for dinner and that chain of restaurants in Maui too. There are three on Ka'anapali Beach and one in Lahaina. We especially like that we can walk on the beach-walk to the restaurants instead of having to drive. We could see from our KBC condo if Duke's was busy or not. It was less busy later at night.

Next time, when you plan to go to the Beach House, make reservations with the concierge and you will get a good table right in front of the beach. The first time we went, they seated us somewhere else while we saw all the empty tables in the front so we asked why we couldn't sit there and she told us that all these tables were reserved.

I am so glad that you saw the Napali Coast!
