Unfortunately I've found that the bands are inconsistent when used for entry and pool gates. Sometimes they work but are finicky. Often times they don't work well and I resort to a room key. This is more true at security gates than pool gates. For this reason I keep a single room key in the car to use when returning to the resort to get through the security gate.
Absolutely this. If we have a vehicle at a gated entry resort I always ask for an 'extra' key for the car.

(Well...more accurately I always book at Max occupancy and then when the person at the desk asks how many keys I would like I tell them the number I need for people + 1. This avoids annoyance if plans/number of guests change and also helps if disaster strikes and a Travelex claim needs to be made).

Apparently the wristbands may have been upgraded at Harbour Lake. (@dioxide45 can you confirm this?) I wasn't aware but none of my old wristbands worked when I was there in December. Front desk didn't say they recently upgraded but gave me 3 wristbands for free. I was just at Mountainside in Park City and when I told them I had wristbands, front desk asked me how recently I got them because they had just upgraded. They were able to program the new wristbands leading me to believe my old wristbands didn't work at Harbour Lake because they upgraded.

We just had ours switched out for free at Maui last month- they said they couldn’t reprogram the ones we had because some resorts codes can’t be overcome with new codes. Looked exactly the same as the old ones we ‘purchased’ we our donations. No mention thst they were being discontinued.
Yes they did that for us in Palm Desert last month as well.

We'll be there Sunday so I will see what they say about our wristbands at checkin.

Barony Beach charged us $6 for two bands when we were there Dec 2-5th.

When we checked into Grande Ocean in October we were told our wrist bands were out of date and we needed new ones we were given a discount on the new ones.

When we checked in we were told that we needed new bands. I asked how they knew and she said if we hadn't got new bands in the last month or so, we would need new ones. She offered to swap out our current bands for free. I had four but only asked for two to be swapped since I know the old bands still work at some properties.

I do notice they have a sign for something called "The Link". I am not really sure what that is but it looks like it may be in the old old sales office from many years ago. They have something called "The Link" at Vistana Villages where it is kind of a lounge but where they also check in promo preview guests for their stay. I plan to head over to The Link at Harbour Lake this week to see what it is.

I didn't notice this when I was there in December but I remember someone mentioning on TUG something about a VIP lounge of some sorts and wonder if that's what this might be.

Perhaps it is some kind of VIP checkin like they have at Grande Vista? I will see what I can find out.

That was also back when they had those plastic bands with all the holes and a snap. Like a hospital band. Thankfully I never remember seeing those and only had the rubber bands that you could easily slip on and off.
I still have 4 of the original bands along with several of the rubber band ones. The original ones are my favorite and I always crack up when the front desk staff commented that they had never seen the snap version. I will miss using the original version.

Just finished a stay at DSV and they programmed our (old) wrist bands for us. However when we went to use them they didn’t work. Surprised they didn’t know we had the old ones as the new ones have a number on the underside. When we went back to the front desk and they swapped two of them for the new ones at no charge. They said to keep the old ones as they still might work at some resorts.

We checked into Newport Beach yesterday. My wrist bands did not work. Their new key system should be activated by next week. The new bands will cost $6.00.
