A little over 40 years ago we had our first child. Since that time there has been other people to consider living under our roof. After our kids came grand kids living with us. Finally after all this time, we had are first night with no others here. We are free of others living here even though we have three grand daughters here this morning running amuk.

So we have decided to upgrade the stereo system that we bought 26 years ago. No more cd player, big amp or dvd player. Entertainment center gone.

I liked our 70's pillow furniture back in the 70's but I was told no way. The furniture will include recently purchased but not delivered his and her recliner couches with a drop down middle table storage thing. Maybe a reclining chair might be something to consider.

congratulations. We thought we were empty nesters when we moved from Texas to Washington 8 years ago. Then DD came and lived with us awhile, and then she left, then our youngest ds came to live with us a while...now he too has moved on....the grandkids haven't come yet but I can see that in the future. Enjoy the quiet while you can

Congrats!
Now you can walk about in your undies and leave doors open, without offending anyone.

We also bought his+her recliners to watch the big-screen TV over the fireplace.
And a new treadmill, which we put next to them.

I think we may become empty nesters, again, next month. Older dd is married and living in CA, so she's been out for awhile. Younger dd moved back in with us when she finished her Master's Program and was job hunting. She happened to get a job close by, so she's been with us for a little over two years. She is moving into her own apartment later this month. She'll still be in Santa Fe so we expect to see her quite a bit. "Dad, what are you making for dinner?"

I too am looking forward to the day where it will be just my husband and myself. Still have 2 adult children living with us. My son is finishing his degree online and my daughter has too firmly embraced the idea that living at home means she can save for a down payment and pay off her student loan. Still we are happy they are with us and are not over extended during these difficult times. Enjoy your new found freedom!

Two years after each of our sons went to college, I gave notice that I was redecorating their room and anything they wanted had to be taken out of the house and to their apartment - which we were funding as we decided it was better to subsidize than have them at home! So I did one room and then 2 years later the other one. They looked like not guest rooms - even added floral comforters!

The older one and wife and son did stay with us for 11 weeks 9 years ago while waiting to get the forclosure home that they bought closed and renovated. they had sold their house in KC quicker than they thought. We all survived. They now live 3 blocks away and he pops over for a few hours each week.

We like empty nest! We also have a reclining sofa, but it has a cushion in the middle (where the cocker spaniel relaxes) and giant TV. Our oldest son does too! Years ago, he told his wife he liked the sofa and 2 recliners in the living room and she rolled her eyes, but when they bought new furniture, they bought 2 of the leather reclining sofas at Lazy Boy a couple of years ago. :) When grandson started his 3rd year of college, DIL, sent all his stuff with him to the condo he lives in and made his room another guest room!

Today is my son’s birthday and he was the last to move out. Our daughter bought a condo when she was 21 so she has been our for 18 years already. My son is 31 and he bought his house when he was 19 so we have been empty nesters for 12 years already.

I remember it was really quiet right away when they were both gone. We got used to it and enjoy the freedom. Both are really well established so we don’t see either coming back. My son has had his house paid off for a few years already.

We get annual visits, calls and FaceTime in between. We may to go back to visit Wisconsin in 2022.

Enjoy your well deserved quiet and freedom.

recliners in front of the big screen TV. All kinds of channels to pick from, plus all the streaming. It's wonderful! I can't believe the stuff I can get from NetFlix, Amazon Prime, You Tube, you name it. Unbelievable variety!

I have DS37 and DS28 and DD14. Prayerfully, we will get a glimpse of an empty nest when she goes off to college in a few years.
