They're not doing their kids a favor if they are destitute in their retirement because they paid for their college or anything else...

We all have to bump into reality eventually; better to do it when you're young and flexible than when you've become accustomed to living beyond your means.

so true. I think I would have turned out a different person had I not been responsible for my own education and living expenses. Hard to imagine not having to work at all until after college grad. What a dream!!!

Still waiting on folks to buy me a car, or put tires on the one I have. :hysterical:

Be proud of your up coming empty nest. It means you did a great job and your child is ready for and embracing adulthood! Way to go!!!
The parent can't help but be scared when their kids grow up and are ready to leave, but try to remember how ready you felt yourself at that age and embrace your child's upcoming independance. I know I couldn't wait to graduate and get out of my parents house!!! My mom was having a cow b/c she wanted me to stay home and go to jr. college for a couple of years before moving off to a university. I understand now a big part of her fear might have been for herself b/c she didn't keep much company outside of her home so she would be forced to spread her own wings again socially or else be alone a lot and SHE wasn't ready for the change, even though I was! LOL!!! Well, we both did just fine so all that worry she did was for nothing.

Empty Nest - Take Two

We've had our 2nd daughter back home for a year. Yesterday she signed a lease for an apartment and moves in on Monday. She's been nice to have around, although she really isn't around much. She works about 40 miles from here and her apartment will be 7 miles from her work. This will be a relief for me in the winter.

It is kind of funny she is moving on a Monday, she doesn't want any help.

My stepdaughter moves out tomorrow. I'm glad - it's' time - she'll be happier without having to do what her parents tell her!I will miss her, but I'm sure she'll visit a lot!
