All,

I am planning on going to Elysian Beach Jan 29-Feb 5 of next year -- I understand from talking to the resort management that they are doing a (major?) renovation right now of all rooms that is scheduled to be completed in early December. I certainly hope that it is, and if so, I'll report back on the improvements.

I stayed on this property in 2008 and loved it (the location and the facility) but the rooms were in need of TLC even then.

Recently, it's been heavily criticized on some of the travel websites as badly in need of renovation, so hopefully Wyndham and the resort are doing a proper job of fixing it up, and not just slapping on some paint.

Will keep you apprised....

Greg

please let me know, I am considering a trip but want to make sure the renovations took care of the complaints first, thanks in advance.

I really hope it's done by early December! We check-in Dec 12th... celebrating my sister's 40th birthday.

Hello,
We just booked this resort for April and would love to hear how the renovations are coming along. Hope you had a great trip!

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response... still catching up from a wonderful vacation and then the holidays!

Let me just say that St. Thomas is my new favorite place on earth. The resort is just lovely. We stayed in renovated units. This was my first visit, so I don't have first-hand knowledge of the units pre-renovation. The picture on Wyndham's website shows bamboo headboards and sunshine yellow walls... those are gone. I've attached a picture that shows the new interior. We really didn't spend a lot of time in the unit... we just went there to sleep, bathe and change clothes. :)

I don't know the timeline to finish renovations, but we called about a week ahead and requested renovated units. However, I learned that Carnival is in April and it seems that the resort is pretty booked already (yes, I'm ready to go back), so you may want to call sooner rather than later. They will tell you there are no guarantees, but when I checked in, they remembered me because I had just spoken to them a few days earlier.
In case you haven't visited St. Thomas, one important thing to know... politeness really goes a long way (I learned that before I called, so I my phone call was probably over-the-top friendly. :D )

:) Leaving on Jan 22 our 4th visit to the Elysian. Really looking forward to the renovations. The Elysian is a really nice property, excellent location, however, the rooms need a lot of improvement. Called the resort this weekend and had a special request to be in a unit close to a dear friend who recently lost her husband. They could not have been nicer. They also put us in a renovated room.:) :)

Juanita,

Thank you for the picture, that's really encouraging (and it looks really nice!).

Did they upgrade bathrooms/etc throughout the entire unit, I hope?

Please advise and thanks!

Our unit was a Studio Double...just two beds, closet, mini-kitchen (shown in the pic from my earlier post) and the bathroom. Keeping in mind that this was my first visit...the bathroom seems upgraded. I believe granite counter tops (no pics to help my memory:shrug: )... I remember tiled walls in the shower, curved shower rods, nice faucets (bath & shower). The only thing that seemed weird was that we couldn't close the louvers on the window in the shower. Either it was stuck or we didn't have the strength to turn it. We didn't bother to report it. Of course it was screened, and the one in our unit wasn't accessible from outside....just kind of weird to hear & see people outside while showering. But if anyone outside happened to look in, they'd only see your head. The balcony was also a decent size.
