Has anyone been here recently? I have a 24 hr hold for New Years week 09'.
The Tug reviews are so-so and none very recent. How is Mazatlan? Our family has never been to Mexico. Thanks, Dawn

El Cid is well located in the Golden Zone. Good restaurants etc. nearby. I haven't stayed there, and it's one of the older resorts in town. New Years week will be a terrific time to be there. Mazatlan is a friendly large city with all that goes with that. There's deep sea fishing, golf at El Cid's course, pools on the grounds. You'd have a great time.

Was in Mazatlan last March. Stayed at the Granada ( an El Cid resort ) next to the golf course. That resort has been allowed to deteriorate and was a two star ( at best ). Nice pool on the grounds and as you will be across the street I would suggest you take the skywalk from the El Moro and use the pool at the Granada. Hope you didn't get the All-Inclusive since there are many fine restaurants within walking distance. Make sure you take your group to a place called Panama's ( an incredible eating experience ). The El Moro is dated but decent. I own at the El Cid Marina and like that part of the resort better. The El Cid has a shuttle service that will take you to the Marina. If you have any questions, I would be happy to try to answer them.
You will constantly be bothered by the El Cid timeshare people. Keep the conversation polite ( they are only trying to earn a living ) but keep on moving as you say that you are not interested. Love Mazatlan and will be returning in Feb. Enjoy the people and the city. It is wonderful.

You will love the El Moro-it is right in the acive part of the Golden Zone and if you want to have a little more privacy at the pool or beach take the free shuttle to Marina El Cid (5 minutes). The pools are great and several are heated (otherwise a little cool in Dec & Jan). We go every year for Xmas & New Year and Mazatlan is great.

I agree with a previous posting -don't take the AI since there are many great restaurants & bars all around and better prices.

El Cid El Moro Tower

We stayed at El Moro tower in 2007. Up on the 20th floor. 1 bedroom is quite large. Great views, pleasant staff. It is located within walking distance to the Golden Zone and all the restaurants.
