Just returned from 2 weeks at the Eldorado. This was our second time and once again I would give it 5 stars. The food is incredible, presentation absolutely wonderful. It is adults only. The resort has rebounded completely from the hurricane even opening another brand new restaurant. We bought into a gardenview room and are really pleased that we did as we now have access to RCI as well. In another post I mentioned that we are now able to spend 3 weeks in England at royal crown properties for an unbelievable price! Questions on Mayan Riviera or El Dorado welcome! :)

My brand-new husband and I exchanged into El Dorado Royale for our honeymoon 01/09-01/16/06. We agree with you--the presentation is great, the service is attentive, and the resort is beautiful. We had set our expectations a little lower because of the hurricane damage, but found the resort and its amenities to be better than expected. The beach was okay, but it was pretty windy most days. Too cool and windy to swim until the fifth day. When we arrived in Cancun, it was actually warmer in Myrtle Beach (where we live) than in Mexico.

Also--We had really wanted a casita, but couldn't justify the extra A/I fees. We found our Garden View suite to have a fantastic view of the ocean, and much more central location to the six restaurants.

All in all, a great trip.

We brought American dollars to tip the staff--it seemed to be expected.

same time!

Hey we were there at the same time! we were there from jan 7 - 21. Congrats on the wedding!! What bldg were you in? we were in 824 and had a great view of the ocean. we had been over in blg 12 but I asked to be moved as there isn't any sun on that side! It leaves around 10! Yes that ocean was unreal and it really didn't get much better after you left. We were to go out on a Fat Cat Catamaran ride Tues the 17th but WAY to windy so had to go the Thurs. Thank heavens it was ok that day.We bought into the resort last year and to be honest were really not impressed by the Casitas. My husband and I are retired in mid 50's and have "been there done that" with ocean front etc etc. I do think they are targeting young- just married couples who might be given the vacation or excited about a first trip.
Here in Ontario we are setting record highs for the month of Jan most days have been above freezing. it is not sitting well with ski lodges and ice fishing operators who may have to pull off the few ice huts that are on the lake. This week it is to be 34 -40 degrees right through until Sun and then it might get colder. We used to visit Myrtle Beach in the spring as a fast easy drive down. You have such good weather there - the best of both worlds..and lots of golf courses (but the best part is the great shopping) Is that Wacama Mall still there? That was a long time ago. (forgive spelling--I'm a retired teacher). Glad I found this site. Did you buy into it or just use the free part. I'd pay the $15 if I thought I'd get a lot of information joanne :)

we were your neighbors!

Joanne--
My husband and I were staying directly adjacent to you in the 8 building. Danny and I met while you were reading on the balcony one morning. And, if I remember correctly, your husband plays a mean game of beach volleyball.

Regarding your questions, this TUG website is invaluable if you are planning to exchange in the future.
It's well worth the $15.
And, Waccamaw Mall is open in a limited sense, but much in Myrtle Beach has probably changed since you last visited. The weather is still great.

What a small world!

Good Lord!!!

Ok I had a good chuckle over that one!! Hi neighbour! Yes Ron did play a mean volleyball game!
Now that I went on and on about our wonderful weather....we had a bloomin' blizzard for the last couple of days and now probably have over 45 inches of fresh snow....oh goody...(if I'd just kept my mouth shut....)
I'm busy making preparations for England, where to visit at each place and haven't done much yet on London for our last 3 days.
What do you like about Tug? What can you do by paying that you can't do without?
We have just put a search on for St. Maartin for a couple of weeks next Jan or Feb. Have no idea if this is a really hard place to get into. Is this some of the things people on this website talk about? Fill me in and I might join!

Ok typo error in the amount of snow! Only about 20 inches. We deal with metric up here so Iwas dealing with centimetres! Still a lot of snow. We're having difficulty backing out of the driveway. You kind of need someone out on the road to say that no one is coming!

Joining TUG will get you access to the extensive Reviews section which is a great help in choosing resorts. Also several 'members only' sections on the site, like Sightings of great exchange weeks at the exchange companies. In addition, this board is a great source of info such as the likelihood of your exchange (should probably be posted in the Exchanging or Caribbean sections), but I would encourage you to join TUG rather than becoming a long-term guest...
