We are thinking about going to Edisto island next summer. We, my husband and 5 yr old. My daughter and I love the beach but I was wondering should we go to Myrtle beach instead. I have been to Myrtle beach about 6 yrs ago with bluegreen. Parents check on rooms and plenty are for Myrtle beach.

Thanks Julie

It depends on what you want to do. Myrtle Beach has so much more to do, attractions, etc. Edisto is very laid back , my friend owns there and their kids didn't want to go , thought it would be too boring, but fell in love with it much to their surprpise. Since your daughter is only 5 she will probably be perfectly happy to just play in the pool & build sandcastles . You could go to Charleston for the day. shaggy

It so much depends on what you want to do. If you want to save money, relax, and enjoy the quiet of nature, then Edisto is for you. If you want traffic, shows, lots of restaurants, shopping and noise, then Myrtle Beach is best.

We loved Edisto Island. Can easily get around on rented bikes and the resort offers so many activities that you can choose to do. Lots of dolphins and shells. It is very quite and everyone was so nice.

Edisto Island is a wonderful place to take a family vacation. The only draw back if your five (5) years old needs to experience the amusement park atmosphere this could be the wrong place to bring her.

I do feel that there are enough activties on the island to entertaint her exploring mind for seven (7) days.

We like Hilton Head which we feel is somewhere between Myrtle Beach and Edisto concerning nature vs commercialization. But we don't go in the summer.

We visited August 2010 with our six grandchildren ranging in age from 2 to age 12 along with a 3 year old niece. There was no shortage of enjoyable activities for them. We had in total a party of 18 people between two villas, a 4BR at Southpointe is where they stayed with a pool across a gated parking lot, the beach was about 4 easy blocks away on quiet streets and bikes we rented for the week. Even the little one's were able to enjoy bike riding with child seats provided by the bike rental vendor. Our 8 year old granddaughter was inspired to ride a two wheeler for the first time after riding with training wheels on the bike for the first day or two. I guess our 4 year old granddaughter riding a two wheeler in circles around her was too much to bear. smile...

Our second villa was in an area called "The Village" with a pond steps away from the back of the villa. My grandson 10 years old enjoyed his first fishing experience there. This villa was much farther from the beach but close to the club house.

There are board game rentals and a playground area available that we also took advantage of.

Overall hands down the beach, the pool and the bikes were the main attractions for them.

Thanks,
Ira

What months are ocean-swim-able? Is the sea too cold in May or June? (I'm thinking September could be stormy)

Depends on what is acceptable for swimming for you. Here's a chart:

Look at Charleston, SC for closest to Edisto. It's warmest mid July to mid August. It gets above 80 mid June. May is in the 70's and still kinda chilly for me!
