Hi, I have a question, I need one more night in order to move to the next level (Gold) I have a e certificate I can use locally tomorrow. By using the cert will it count towards my next level? I received this for spending on my MR CC.

Thanks,

I know this doesn't answer your question, but are you gold now or just silver? Did you have any roll over nights from 2014 in to 2015? Depending on your stays next year, you might want to roll over 39 nights (if you can) in to 2016. Then after your credit card nights post in 2016, you would only be one night away from Gold in 2016 which would be good until Feb 2018.

Ahhh Dioxide, Thank you! I forgot about rollover and will be traveling a lot this year for work so I should not have an issue reaching gold.

What about platinum though. If you didn't have any roll over nights from 2014 in to 2015, I think that getting the extra roll over nights is the better way to go. If you reach gold in 2015, it is only good until Feb 2017. If you hold out for the roll over, you might be able to hit gold early in 2016 and then it is good much longer. Getting gold this year doesn't help you much for stays in 2015 since the year is almost over. If you reach gold in Q1 2016, you get 9 months long with gold status.

But to answer the original question, the free night you get annually from the Marriott credit card does count as a night for elite status purposes. We used one of ours in November and it posted as such.

This is good advice, but it is even better than you state. The credit card annual renewal nights are 15, not 10, if you have the Premier card, so 39 rollover nights plus the annual nights would be enough to reach Gold. And because the rollover nights are essentially double counted, your strategy also increases the number of lifetime nights.
