I've been following auctions on one timeshare resort for over a year now. I recently saw a week there sell for more than twice what any others have brought. It was a "private auction" and the only private auction I've seen for that property. The week and unit size were comparable to the other auctions I've been watching. Can someone explain why a private auction might bring such a higher price?

I have a guess. . . .

My guess is that the price climbs because the bidder's ID and e-mail are hidden thereby preventing anyone from offering the bidder a reality check.

Could be shill bidding since there is no way of knowing who the competing bidders are.
