Just won a bid on ebay from a seller who has a 99.5% rating and seems to also rent weeks. Total Due about $2100.00.

Seller states this for payment process. Since I am new to this, can someone who has previously bought through ebay confirm if this is a norma way to proced:

Or you can paypal with the ECHECK option only to thier email. But please be sure it is echeck. It must state echeck and not an instant transfer, otherwise paypal charges me a 3% fee. Where as Echeck is only a $5.00 charge to me. If you would like the credit card, you need to add 3% to the total. Theyprovide their phone and contact information for questions which was nice.

And also state that my deed is mailed out to the courthouse for recording with in 2 business days of receiving cleared funds.

Thanks, Margie

What the seller stated is true as far as Paypal payment goes. Not only they charge extra, they change the account type to business if you accept credit card payment once. After that, they charge you fee to receive any fund.

I am not sure if that is a problem for you. If the seller stated accepting paypal in the listing without mentioning the fee. You might be able to negotiate. Paypal does provide some protection. But using a credit card would provide more protection.

Did he ask you to pay him directly or to a closing agent? I usually only pay the seller a deposit and rest to closing company.

ebay pay and close

Thanks for the reply - I don't think I would mind the epaypal payment if that is not untypical. However, I do not recall any mention of closing company - does there need to be - it sounds as if they were going to wait for payment to file deed transfer, etc. themselves. Is this possible?

It is certainly possible that the seller wants to do the closing/transfer themselves, but personally, I would not send a complete stranger $2,100. If I were you, I would contact the seller immediately and offer to pay for professional closing/escrow. Timeshare bids are not binding on ebay, so if they refuse escrow I would say, no deal.

It's always a good idea to contact the seller before you buy and clarify the purchase procedures before you bid, if it's not outlined in the ebay Ad.

Who is the ebay seller?

Who is the ebay seller? Maybe others have had positive or negative experiences with him/her to share with you.

Ebay website says:

Sellers who offer PayPal as a payment option in their eBay listings (either via logos or through text in the item description) must accept card funded payments. Sellers must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account upon receipt of a card funded payment. Sellers may not communicate to buyers that they only accept account balance or bank account funded payments, or will not accept card funded payments.
Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
  • Listing cancellation
  • Forfeiture of eBay fees on cancelled listings
  • Limits on account privileges
  • Loss of PowerSeller status
  • Account suspension

The OP indicated there was a choice.

I don't see any violation of paypal rules you posted, do you.?

OP stated the seller would not accept an instanst transfer, that violates Ebay policy. Op also stated seller said to add 3% to a credit card payment, that also violates Ebay policy. Sellers may not charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of checks, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards. Such costs should be built into the price of the item. I'm not saying I agree with Ebay's policy. Op asked if this was normal procedure. It really isn't.

Yikes

Thanks for all replies. I am new to ebay, so I am not trying to sir anything up for the seller - I checked and she does state that paypal is accepted with some conditions on the bid page.

Was planning on doing the epaypal checking option as noted earlier, but someone suggested seeing if anyone in this group has worked with this seller before.

Name of seller shows as : time-4-vacation
On ebay shows red star and ~1300+ items, many are rental weeks too.

I spoke to her via cell phone, she shared both cell and home number. Being new to ebay - this built some trust...? She said she files deed herself, can fax me a copy once she puts my info in it, etc. Said county takes 2-3 weeks to return and then she calls wyndham etc. which to me sounded like she does the closing herself direct through a contact at wyndham - she mentioned POA office also that I can call to verify status of transfer once filed. ?

Any info would be appreciated. I am going from excited to nervous?
