Easy Refund from United

Last month my sister came to visit me for 17 days. Unfortunately she passed away while she was here. I contacted United to cancel her return flight and asked if they would refund the return portion of the flight. I was told to fill out a request at united.com/refunds. I had to provide a copy of the death certificate/obituary. Since I didn't have the death certificate, I included a link to her obituary. I got a reply the next day saying a refund of half the ticket price had been processed and would be applied to the credit card used to purchase the ticket. Kudoos to United for making it so easy.

Very sorry for your loss. In other circumstances United does not like to give refunds in my experience.

Thank you but, unfortunately, it was completely unexpected. She wasn't sick. I came home from a meeting and found her gone. Then I had to call her husband and the rest of the family.

I'm so sorry Pat. Not only is it difficult to lose a family member but suddenly and unexpectedly must have been so much worse.
