DH and DS leave October 10, for a 12 day father-son trip to Ireland. I'd like to book them something at least for the first night, not too far from the airport. Most chains seem to be charging over $200 a night. Yikes! Any recommendations?

Thanks!

We have stayed in two places. The Clarion is at the airport and it gave us a good accommodation. If you want a little better atmosphere, we stayed at a B & B in Dublin City called Abbeyleigh House. http://www.goireland.com/dublin/abbeyleigh-house-accommodation-bed-and-breakfast-id29819.htm

It is in walking distance of City Centre, Trinity College, Dublin Green, etc. If you contact the owners, they will tell you the shuttle bus you can take from the airport which would be cheaper than a cab. You need to tell the driver where to let you off, so discuss with the owners. We enjoyed this lovely Victorian home.

Speaking of Trinity College I went to Ireland a couple of years ago and we stayed in the dorms at Trinity for a few nights. It was pretty reasonable (about 60 Euros per person which included breakfast). It may not be an option for an October trip though (I did it in the summer).

Scotlass, I tried for Abbeyleigh House, but they are booked for the night I want. I'll keep checking, and searching. Thanks. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

If you have any recommendations for "must sees" in Ireland, please send them along! I'm sure our 24 year-old son would like recommendations for good pubs!

Kayak.com was showing rooms at the Clarion (at the Airport) for prices as low as $113 using hotelclub.com. I've never used hotelclub.com so I cannot vouch for them.

As for other B & Bs...
If you are staying in Cork, I've stayed at the Garnish House (www.garnish.ie). They had a great staff and an awesome breakfast. It was a bit pricier than some of the others in the area, but I felt it was a better value. They own various properties, but the breakfast is served only in the main house. Try to book your room in the main house.

If you go to Doolin (Cliffs of Moher), check out the Sea View House (www.seaviewhouse.eu).

In Dingle, (Dingle Penisula) we stayed at Bambury's Guesthouse (www.bamburysguesthouse.com/index.html).

Thanks! I'll get the boys researching next week when DS returns from 8 months in South Korea. :cheer:
