I will be in Barbados for 2 weeks in April. The first week at the Bougainvillia Resort and the second at South Beach Resort. I am not sure if I will need a car the entire 2 weeks or just a few days to explore the island? Any advice from Tuggers who have visted Barbados?

A car for a couple of days was fine for me to tour the island. The bus system was not bad to get into the capital and a few other places. The resort had a bus to the Ostins fish fry on Friday night, which was well worth going to. I flew down on Air Jamaica which had free stopovers enroute at other islands, so I tacked on a few non-timeshare days on St. Lucia after my exchange on Barbados.

You don't really need a car for the entire time you are there. Two or three days would probably be a good idea. At the south end of the island where you are staying, everything is close, either by walking or bus or taking a short cab ride. South Beach is right across the street from Rockley Beach. There are bus stops there that will take you into the City of Bridgetown or to the West Coast in the Holetown area, or even further up the coast to Speightstown. If you want to see more of the island that is when you'll need the car. Drive over to the East Coast to the Soup Bowl to see the huge waves and surfers. Stop in to either the Atlantis Hotel for a Wed. or Sunday brunch, or lunch at The Round House. Both places overlook the ocean, and both have good food.

I have done both...rent a car for the week and for just a couple days.
I would do the couple days again. We were close to the airport though for a cheap taxi ride. If you are far I would def. rent for the week.

We are vetrans of driving in St. Lucia and couldn't navigate our way around Barbados to save our life. Road signs are not really something you'll see much of and maps are mostly outdated. In one spot the road was closed and actually diverted through someones backyard!!

Hubby usually does all the driving and he's good at it. One day I just wanted to go up the street, short drive to the store. Well I side swipped a hedge almost knocking the side mirror off before I even got out of the resort and barely missed a head on collision with a full size bus. I'm not allowed to drive anywhere on the left anymore.

There is a BajanNav download (google that) for your GPS. Unfortunatly we couldn't figure out how to pull it up as we just bought the gps and left instructions at home. LOL
Hope this helph:)

This is a great download. I have installed it on my GPS and will come in very handy.

Thanks
