DP repurchases [Merged]

My Father-in-law recently inquired and they offered him $4,900 for his 2500 Trust points....or $1.96 a point.

Are you trying to give this away? I would take your DPs.
There is a resale market for DPs.
Best to ask on the Marriott Forum for advice on what to list for and what will pass ROFR. Right of first refusal

You can sell them on the open market for more than that.

100% true, but with so many points packages listed for sale on the resale market, I have always wondered how hard it is to sell them and how long it would likely take. With weeks, there is sometimes demand for a specific resort that makes selling those maybe a little easier, but a point is a point, so I wonder if a guaranteed, immediate $1.96 from MVC would be better than maybe getting $2.75 to $4.00 from a private sale that might take who knows how long, and if you sell through a broker, that broker will take a commission which will reduce your net. Clearly if you can sell for $3-$4 on the open market, that is a better deal, but how long will it take? I don't know.

Also true, just depends what the situation is, which we don't know. For me, when the time comes, I will sell on the market as it will be a planned event with no rush. My point was merely to inform the OP that it is an option in case they did not know, not to say it was the best option necessarily. If I got $4 per point, the often cited price on TUG when we tell people to buy resale instead of from MVCI, I'll break even, lol. Points purchase will have cost me nothing (time I suppose). If it takes 2 years, 5 years, don't care. Meanwhile, they can be rented out.

The world is always in a hurry. I am never in a hurry.

Thanks, appreciate it.

I agree the Destination Points have value. [Link to eBay ad deleted.] Two are being sold right now.
