Donatello vs Wyndham Canterbury in San Francisco

I have reservations for 5/17-5/22/26 at Canterbury in a 1-bedroom presidential. I know the PR has a full kitchen and is a little larger than the 1-BR, but is it really worth the additional 60k points for the 5-night stay?

No, sorry - Unfortunately, that is my old web host that went out of business and deleted all of my content!

Do you all bring a car or try to go public transport only?
You do not need, or want, a car in San Francisco. Within the city you can walk, take public transportation or a cab/Lyft/Uber.

If you want to get outside of the city for a day you can always rent a car.

Thank you. With this input we are going to reserve it (Canterbury). We will report back after the stay in a few months.

I was looking to head down to SF and then go to Yosemite. Has anyone stayed at the Bass Lake property? Is that a decent location for Zyosemite or just rent somewhere closer in?

That's my plan for May 2026: fly into SF, drive to Bass Lake (no 1-BR units there though), do Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Valley, drive to Dolphin's Cove in Anaheim and do Disneyland for 3 days, drive to Solvang, the end up in SF. From reviews I've read, Bass Lake isn't too bad of a drive for Yosemite/Sequoia/Kings Valley, but I've not done it personally.

We have stayed at Bass Lake and did the drive to Yosemite. The drive is not that far or difficult. I would not want to make the drive every day but for a couple days it is fine.

Sounds like a heck of a trip. California is so many trips it is impossible to do it all in 1 trip.

This year I’m doing hotel stays from Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey and then dropping off in Windsor for 4 nights. Will hit Pinnacles national park along the way—- will stop in Solvang too for a day but organized trip too late to get a night there

Still looking at Bass Lake for next year— it might be the best option since the hotels get pricey right around Yosemite—- but definitely not the best option for hiking the trails everyday for at least 4 days like I plan.

We did Bass Lake and couple years ago. We drove from Salem Oregon to Windsor and stayed 2 nights. Then drove to Bass Lake and stayed for a week. From Bass Lake we drove to Solvang and stayed for 1 week. Drove to Windsor and stayed for 2 nights. Drove home to Salem. We use Windsor for 2 night stays when we are heading south and on return trip. We use Reno the same way when we are heading East or Southeast.

I've never stayed in a Presidential at Canterbury, so I can't speak to the room quality over the Deluxe, but if you don't need the full kitchen specifically, I would say its probably not worth the extra points.

And no, you don't need a car there. My family got a rental car one morning (EARLY) and drove to Yosemite, it's a far drive. We stayed in a hotel nearby for one night and did a 2 day Yosemite thing. Wish we would have planned for more time there.

The link to your list does not work anymore. Any chance there's an updated list?

On the internet, nothing is forgotten. Here is a link to Denise's helpful page

BTW, @DeniseM, if you need any of your other content...

Wow - that is old! But thank you! My apologies for the formatting - apparently it is no longer working correctly.

Transit in SF aid pretty good. You can augment with a taxi/lyft/etc. when necessary.
Yes, a car in SF is a liability. I have traveled all over SF and the Bay, including Oakland, Berekley, Daly City SFO, etc. without a car. Hell these days you can even get to San Jose by BART.

Montrey is a great little town. I spent a lot of time there while attending school. Lots of nearby hikes and things to do. Let me know if you have any questions.
