Is Donate For A Cause a good way to get rid of a timeshare? What do I need to watch out for? Where are they located? I can't even find their hometown to look them up in the BBB? Somebody help me get rid of this albatross!

Donate for a Cause will charge you thousands of dollars to "take your timeshare off your hands." No company will accept a timeshare for free, unless it has a definite resale value and they can flip it quickly.

I noticed that you posted it on the TUG Bargain deals forum back in March, but you haven't added anything since then. In this economy, you should be "bumping" your post to the top once a week if you really want to give it away. Posting it once won't do it, because your post is now buried pages and pages back on that forum.

If you really want to give it away, you should be actively marketing it on as many cheap and free websites as possible.

To add to what Denise says, there are some people who are resorting to offering to pay all closing costs, and I think I have even seen a listing or two where the "seller" also has offered to pay the following year's maintenance fee.

The justification for these tactics are that for something in the neighborhood of $1,000 (give or take) you will be sure that the timeshare, and annual MF obligation, are taken out of your name.

There's an ongoing thread on another ts forum (http://www.timeshareforums.com/forums/ts4ms-charitable-cause-area/123204-working-dfc-donating-our-ts.html). Keep in mind this is a newbie poster and may be a shill (not making judgements - just saying). Most of us who have dealt with DFC have been on the buying end, with mixed results (do a search). John Kushman from DFC also reads and posts to this forum so you could ask him a question directly.

Notice that the thread referenced above confirms that they charge the owner $2,600 to make a donation.

We are located in Bozeman Montana.

There is a fee to donate based on whether or not we can sell the property for enough to cover all of the costs (transfer from donor to charity, and charity to buyer).

Yes, I contacted them and the fees were around $2,000. I sold mine for $455.00 on Ebay. I offered to pay closing which amounted to $179.00. The transaction went through just in time to avoid 2012 maintenance fees.
