Philosophically (and they reference this in the article) it's unclear what it would even mean for a color to "exist" separate from our perception of it. I suppose you can call it a particular frequency of visible spectrum, but at least to me I think the qualia of a color is merely our perception of it. Especially because different species and different people perceive the same frequency differently it seems like the "colorness" isn't a property of the external world.
