I have been using Vacation Timeshare Rentals for renting my weeks for a few years. I was able to list up to 5 ads for free and if you used different email addresses, you could list more. The procedure was fill out the rental information page then hit the submit button. You would receive a verification email within a few seconds. Once you clicked on the verify link in the email your ad would become active on the website.

Now it appears they have made changes. You still fill in the rental form and hit submit and you receive an email. However, the email no longer has a verify link. It states your listing will be active within 3 to 5 days. When I went to log in a few days later, all my ads had been deleted. I don't know if they are trying to get people to pay for the ads now or what is going on.

Just want to know if anyone else has experienced a something similar when submitting free ads on their website recently.

I posted a free ad back in the fall (2012) and the procedure was as you described. An e-mail link was sent to activate the ad. Something else happened that I thought was strange, though. I recently marked the listing "rented" and within a couple of days the listing was active again. I only noticed because I continued to receive inquiries. Technical glitches maybe?

I have used them along with TUG, Redweek and my Resort Network. I have had the best results with Redweek and Vacation Timeshare Rentals

Yes, I have experienced this very recently

Yes, I have a sneaky suspicion that they are attempting to revamp things in order to get more folks paying for listings instead of having folks have multiple email addresses with five listings apiece and avoiding payment for listings.

I passed over this thread a couple of times because it was in the Marriott forum and I thought it was probably relative to listing a Marriott timeshare on their site.

I am not sure at this point whether or not I will pay to list on their website. I do get inquiries on my listings and it has been very beneficial to me as a "free" site. I have great success with www.myresortnetwork.com, which is not "free". www.vacationtimesharerentals.com was a nice addition for "free", but I will have to give it further consideration if I will now have to pay to list.

When I checked the email address that I just recently added five listings to, this is the message:

No timeshare listings were found.
Please contact us for the status of your account!

I have not contacted them for the status since I figure they will just tell me that I have other email addresses with listings and that they want payment for these most recent listings. I'm not looking to draw attention to the ones that are still running.

I've definitely gotten my money's worth over the last few years from this site. :D

Just checked their pricing to renew my ads that are still up, but inactive*

It's $19.99 for one year (or lesser amounts for less time). It really may still be an option for me to list there as another avenue for listing, in conjunction with the other places that I list. I would have to say that, personally, I do better with www.vacationtimesharerentals.com than www.redweek.com.

Plus, for the $19.99, you're getting both a "for sale" and a "for rent" listing combined. Almost all of my timeshares are "for sale" and "for rent" until one or the other happens.

*They used to remove the listing when it expired, then you could go in and add the listing again or replace it with a new one. It only became inactive previously when you went in and indicated that the unit had been sold or rented. I learned not to do that. I just would go in and change the listing to a different resort once I had sold or rented the listed timeshare.

I certainly can't fault them if they're revamping things to increase cash flow. I think most folks aren't going to pay if they can work it and get it for free, and they probably decided enough is enough, let's make some money.

Go with Redweek!

I use Tug and Redweek. Have tried all of the "free" sites and have never completed a rental through any of them. Probably because Redweek rents my unit first.

Just finished my 3rd year in a row renting my BeachPlace unit through Redweek, and every one has been without a hitch.

When I owned a Colorado timeshare I always had good luck renting it through Redweek as well. My summer week in Hawaii will be listed on Redweek soon enough, but i do have a nibble or two pending through Tug's direct exchange classifieds.

Redweek seems great for high end timeshares. Not so much with discount bargain stuff. Cheap vacation shoppers probably don't pay to look at ads. I own both so I will use both and see how it pans out.

The $19.99 is for a month not a year. The cost for a year is $84.99. To me this is expensive when you consider Redweek is $24 for 6 months. I have had great success using Vacation Timeshare Rental both with rentals and sales. I would say with Vacation Timeshare Rentals I got the best results then Redweek would be second.

That is what I believe to. When you post a new listing now they take a look at your ad and your account before they consider posting it. If you are simply listing free ads all the time it looks like they just delete either your account with that email address. Or, they delete all your free ads and leave the account open in case you decide to pay for an ad. Before, they just sent an email link once you submitted the ad, and you activated the ad yourself.

I can't find their fees listed anywhere, but am curious where you found $19.99/mth

When I clicked on to renew one of my inactives, it came up 1 year $19.99 all the way down to 1 month $3.99.

No, I would never pay $19.99/mth. I would pay $19.99/year though.

When you log in to your account, look at the top of the page that comes up, and you will see "Add New Listing." Just click on that and the next page shows the pricing for "Featured Listings"

I've rented all mine on eBay using reasonable reserve prices and they've all sold quickly....in fact I have one eBay customer who has rented the same week from me outside of eBay ever since.

Wasn't there a problem in the past year or so with Vacation Timeshare Rentals? I believe they were not forwarding messages from potential buyers/renters (or something like that.) Did the problem ever get resolved? (I tried using TUG's Search facility to find out, but the term "Vacation Timeshare Rentals" was too general to return useful results, and VacationTimeshareRentals was too long for a search.)

Maybe this is the thread you referred to.

And as an aid to those that don't know how to use a Google browser to search TUG, I just put the following string in a Google browser search box, and found the referenced thread immediately.

"vacation timeshare rentals" site:tugbbs.com

Thanks, Tom! I use Google a LOT, but didn't know how to specify a particular website to be searched.

Yes, that was the thread I was looking for. Here is a sample of the sorts of problems people were having -- this quote is from someone who tried to respond to listings on VacationTimeshareRentals, but got an error:

We rented from this site the past 2 summers with no problem. When I tried to "send a message" to a particular rental ad 2 months ago, I too got an "error." I did this several times thinking I did something wrong or just a problem with their site. I did it several times over the next 2 weeks. I even tried contacting multiple rental ads. Each time I got the "error" message. I felt bad for the people renting those ads since I could not get in to try and book their rental. I used vrbo instead.

Does anyone know if this problem was ever resolved? Or maybe it was related to VacationTimeshareRentals not wanting to accept free ads?

The $19.99 a year is the price to renew an expired standard listing. If you want to upgrade it to a premium it is $84.99 a year. So now it seems for the first year you can have 5 listings for free in the standard form (per site-lower exposure). Beyond the first year those same 5 listings would be $19.99 each per year or $99.95 for all 5 still with the lower exposure. I have a few set to expire next month. I may renew 1 or 2 eventually. It is nice that you can change out all the info in the rental once it is rented. On redweek once a unit rents the ad is no good unless you have another unit at the same resort.

I wish TUG rentals got more exposure when potential renters were searching. It is the most user friendly site but I get the least inquiries in the classified section.

Well, there is another option maybe not many know about, that deals in Marriott-only. Rentals and Resales, in addition to its main focus of free exchanges -----
