I gasped when I saw your post!!! I live up north and love my banana tree. I bring it in every winter along with a few hibiscus and pamper them till they can go back outside. Ship them to me, I would love them.
I would bet you could find someone whom would dig them up and take them. Here's a link to a banana forum. Maybe they can help.
As you probably know, a banana "tree" is not really a tree but rather is a plant that will indeed grow back every year even if you cut it off at the ground. However, I assume a good dose of Roundup would do it.
ok, here's another way; it's free. cut off the top close to the ground. pour water into that and keep it wet. bananas hate wet roots; they'll rot and die. this is why people wrap newspapers over the top of their plants if they top them in the winter.
