Top floor for me. The floor thumping from above drive me crazy! :)

Depends on quality of construction. We have never encountered that at our home resorts with concrete construction, but in the US, with wood construction, it's definitely a problem. Not only the elephant dances and toddler races and people clumping from upstairs, but people clumping up and down the inside or outside staircases....yikes!

The worst was at a nice place in Williamsburg - Kings Creek as I recall - the people and elephants just would NOT stop racing back and forth upstairs. We had the front desk call and ask politely. We had security call and ask politely. Then we had security go up there and knock and ask. The security guy came down to our unit shaking his head, said they were VERY rude and uncooperative, and suggested that in this case it's just plain be easier if they moved us. We decided that was the best course of action, they moved us, and that was that. I didn't think of a few bottles of wine to ease the pain.

I prefer higher but unless there's an elevator it's ground floor for us. We live on the top floor of the building our condo is in - we rented a condo before we bought one. I hate people above me.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
We've called the resort security a couple of times, the most memorable being for what sounded like a domestic issue and resulted in the local police showing up to quiet things down.

I pound the ceiling with a broom or mop handle. It usually does the trick.

A view may be nicer higher up, but honestly, on vacation, I don't sit down and look out the window. I'm out and about.

Preferably top floor, not so much for the view but so that I don't have footsteps and other thumping above me. I don't know why that bothers me, but it does. I don't mind that others are having fun; it's purely an internal thing that keeps me from falling asleep, or that wakes me up too early.

HVC: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.
We were in Waikiki last year when the earthquake hit Japan. We were glad we were on the 11th floor because everyone on the 3rd floor and below had to spend the night "camping out" in the SPA on the top floor.

This year when staying at DRI's KBC on Maui, we asked for the highest floor available. They gave us a room on the 12th floor which we thought was great until the fire alarm went off. DW was not happy about having to walk down 12 flights of stairs. ;)

Ground floor for us

We have a garden view unit at Marriott KBC, Kauai. No water view from the lower three floors.

We always take a ground floor unit that has a slider out the back directly to the lawn area and short walk to the pool/beach.

Not Waiting for elevators is more desirable than having a view from the room for us.

As I get older, I'm becoming more and more like my mom . . . who preferred lower floors. For me/us it's become about ease of loading/unloading with luggage and after grocery shopping, etc.
Some timeshares do not have elevators(2-3 story buildings). We tend to take A LOT of stuff when we go to timeshares, so I rather walk right in to a first floor unit than lug everything up the 20+ steps or more. When there are elevators, I like the higher floors for better view or less noise.

We have two kids, with one that is a light sleeper, so we always request a top floor. We have had several stays in lower level units during which falling asleep for my DD has been a major issue due to overhead thumps and bumps, resulting in cranky endeavors during the holiday.

I know that my kids make noise during the day, which would of course annoy those on the lower level. But we do make sure they are keeping the noise level down and try to ensure they aren't jumping around. Also, they are in bed by 9pm, so their noise-making is hopefully not an issue during bedtime for those below us.

I typically ask for a bottom floor, though I sometimes regret it when the thumpers above me stay up late or get up earlier than me. I'm staying in a Residence Inn right now. They are famous for poor soundproofing between floors. The folks upstairs have been noisy, but so far only while I've been awake.

I prefer being able to run out to the car or the lobby without climbing stairs. My knees aren't great anyway and for more than one flight I'd want to ride an elevator. Much easier when unloading and loading the car also.
