Does a resale Craig Lodge unit qualify for owner update gifts?

Usually resale units don't allow us resale purchases to qualify for gifts at owner updates.... The last I tried, they specifically told we didn't qualify for anything. Which was a bummer because it was worth $350 for two luaus in Hawaii.

As Craig Lodge units are sold direct my Hilton and qualify for vip benefits, does it also allow us to qualify for owner updates?

We only have resale and Craig Lodges and always get invited to updates

Lol, we were definitely talked down to at Ocean Tower. They specifically said they couldn't "allow us" anything because we didn't buy direct from developer. Didn't bother us, but would have loved the deal.

Good to know. Thanks HuskerATL!

Depends on the property. Hawaii seems to make their own rules. Don't want resale owners and say $25k new money. Neither are corporate policies. The last time we were at KL, they wanted us to trade in our two Blvds for Koala Suites. Nope.

We were just at Ocean Oak and they tried very hard to get us into a sales meeting but we turned it down

My guess is that this also depends on how busy the sales center is. Since we added a resale deed, we have been invited, but quickly ushered out by the sales guy. If they are sharp they realize resale owners are pretty unlikely to buy.

Own resale only and have been turned down for updates at HHV and New York.

It seems that it is very common to be turned down at HI resorts if you only own resale. I know that one person (who only owned resale) purchased a Scotland resort and was able to attend owners updates in HI.

Personally, I see it as a benefit not to be allowed to attend an owners update (aka. sale presentation)

Why is not being allowed a benefit? It is always possible to decline, but I can't see any benefit in having choices limited since it in no way impacts whether or not one actually goes if they have the choice.

Cheers.

It's a benefit as they won't bother or harass you. If you never plan on attending, why would you want to be bothered? I may be in the minority, but my time is worth more than what they offer.

Id normally agree with you based on some of the incentives that people have described (i.e. $100 check) but I'll hang out on a lazy day for a couple hours for $300+ discount on luau tickets.

I get that time is money, but sometimes I'm willing to trade a bit of time for money.

Well, IME, at most of the hotels they will harass you as you pass the relevant desk because they don't yet know who you are and what you purchased. If one says no at that point, and they never look you up, it's the same whether one had the option or not. No difference in the harassment.

I prefer having freedom of choice rather than have someone take it from me and make choices for me. I'm just weird that way.

Cheers.

You have a couple of options to solve this issue if you believe that it is a problem.

Sure, as long as I don’t have to unplug my phone or worry about them texting me.

I guess I couldn’t care less about this choice. It’s just something that I’m not interested in and would rather not be bothered. HGVC usually does a nice job not harassing my family and I do a good job of using my “charm” to stop the nagging if they do. That being said, I would rather not be asked at all. Them not asking is a feature, not a bug to me.

It doesn’t bother me if others want to go. If you all want to spend your vacation time with a salesman, enjoy. Thats just not my cup of tea . . . er pitcher of margaritas.

At Cabo Azul now and will have a sales meeting at 11. They offered $300 resort credit and 40% off any activities.

Very nice... I'd definitely take that offer.

How was the update?
Painful but I didn't probably help it since I asked questions. Took about 2 1/2 hours to get to the offer that we turned down. They were trying to get us to create a completely separate account in DRI and buy a few thousand points just to have access to the longer booking windows in DRI... Which we get with DEX. They didn't really show us anything that we can't do now.
