I'm getting close to having 200,000 Marriott Points but, thus far have never used points for anything. My goal would be to go to to Hawaii or something like that with airline tickets included with the 200,000 points. Is this possible? How many tickets would be included?

Marriott pts

My understanding is the most cost effective way to use points is the travel package which offers Marriott Hotel + airline mileage points.

7 nights Hotel + 120k mileage points are about 235k Marriott points for Cat 1-5 Mariott hotels.

Need 250k points for Cat 6 travel package.

120k mileage points could get you 4 air tix to Hawaii with aa during lower season (I saw aa tix for 25k miles per person to Hawaii even from the East Coast). During high season - you might only get 3 tix.

Happy Travels.

A trip to Hawaii, including airfare would require either 250,000 or 270,000 points. Marriott has packages that include 120,000 miles and a 7 night stay in a Marriott (category 7 = 270,000, category 6 = 250,000). You can take a look at the different options for redeeming points on the www.marriottrewards.com site.

I think all the Hawaii hotels are at least a category 6, most are probably a 7. These packages are only good for a hotel stay, the timeshare properties don't accept the awards from the packages.

Also, award stays at the Hawaii properties can be difficult to schedule. You should allow plenty of time in advance to find the property or island you want available.

Marriott also has a Hawaii sampler package for 150,000 points. This allows for stays in any 3 Marriott hotels (again not timeshares) in Hawaii for a 7 night stay. But this package doesn't include any air miles.

You can see the grid ("Hotel + Air") for how many FF miles are included, what category of hotel you could stay in and how many Marriott Rewards points are required for each travel package at this Marriott Rewards link.

No plane tickets are included with the package. Once the FF miles from the package are deposited in your existing airline FF account, it's your responsibility to try to arrange for award tickets. See this link for more info about travel packages and for a link (in post #12) for help with how to make reservations.

Due to points value depreciation, 200,000 points used to buy you a good Hawaii vacation and airfare but no more. The others commenting on 250,000 or so are closer to what it will cost.
If lacking points, suggest do hotel (JWI Marriott next to KoOlina is super on Oahu is great, take KoOlina tour and get some freebees). Buy the airfare discount.

Marriott points

Cobra - what is the "airfare discount" that you mentioned above?

Thx :whoopie:

You can buy the hotel + air packages with as few as 50K miles or with as many as 120K miles. Here are the options.

Cat 6 + air
130K + 50K = 180K
130K + 70K = 200K
130K + 100K = 230K
130K + 120K = 250K

Cat 7 + air
150K + 50K = 2000K
150K + 70K = 220K
150K + 100K = 250K
150K + 120K = 270K

YES you can! I just checked it out.

Here is the example:
September 3-10, 2008 at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. (cat 6 for 130K points)

You would fly on Continental airlines coach class from OKC to HNL.
35K miles X two people = 70K miles. The jumper flights would be on you.

Good Luck :D

200,000 will get you airfare for 2 people and 7 nights in cat 6. We have done this 5 times. Sometimes using the hotel portion in Hawaii and other times saving it for other trips and trading into timeshares for our stay in Hawaii.

You need to pick a travel reward package with at least 70,000 FF miles and a cat 7 hotel cert. Most of the Hawaii Marriotts are cat 7 (this is based totally on demand, not quality of hotel, FYI, although the cat 7s are really nice so don't worry). Others tell you to get 120,000 miles--you do not need this many miles for a one-week trip and 2 FF award tickets. It is good advice to get all the FF miles you can, as the travel package is BY FAR the best exchange rate of Marriott points to FF miles there is. The hotel cert is pretty much thrown in free. Look at other conversions---it is typically 3 MR points for 1 FF mile. 70,000 points usually gets you 2 roundtrip coach tickets to Hawaii from Cont. US.

Monday is your last day to buy up to 50,000 MR points for your account in 2007 ... for $625. On Jan 2, you can buy another 50,000 if you need them on this once-a-year option to get the number of points you need for a nice trip. Bon voyage! :)

I just bought mine - up to 413K now!
Will soon be depositing MLE '09 for another 100K. With that and another '09 purchase of 50K, I will be above that magical 540K mark. :whoopie:

.

I went to buy my 2007 50k MR points online but it wouldn't let me, saying I had exceeded my limit for the year already. Guess I forgot about buying a ton of points before the price increase (last Feb-Mar?) when they didn't place a limit on the total.
