Totally understand & get it...
And that is why it gets super complicated...
Agree, service dogs only at most TS's, except those who are specifically meant for pet owners...
Hope folks respect this... (I think most do; some don't)....
TY!

@mountainboy you didn't even vote in your own poll?

LOL! My vote is listed under Yes and No.
Oops, sorry about that. I meant No

It was fixed. :)

We have cats and 17 Koi fish, none of them enjoy travel much, so we leave them at home

I personally prefer resorts that do not allow ANY pets, but if they're going to allow pets I get kind of aggravated when they say dogs but not cats.

We have a purebred female Balinese cat, specially selected because my husband is generally allergic to cats. People who are allergic to cats are actually allergic to the protein that they produce in their saliva. The protein is transferred to the cat's fur when they groom themselves. If you're allergic, you're allergic to that protein which has been transferred to their fur, not to the fur itself. The Balinese produce less of the protein in their saliva, and the female Balinese produce even less than the males. That is why my "allergic" husband has been fine with my having our female Balinese cat for ten and a half years now. The only thing that will get him is if he pets her and then rubs his eyes, and it's still a very mild reaction. We've had multiple "cat allergic" people over who had no reaction whatsoever.

Since we live in Central Florida (and used to live over on the coast), we've had to evacuate for many hurricanes over the years. When evacuations occur, the hotels and timeshares loosen their restrictions and we've been allowed to bring our kitty with us. She's been to multiple hotels and timeshares, and settles right in once she learns where we've set up her food and litter box. She's done absolutely no damage. She grooms herself quite well and never has an odor about her, and she ALWAYS goes in the litter box (has NEVER missed). Her dried, crushed corn kitty litter contains all the smell and if people don't know we have a cat, they leave still not knowing we have a cat if she doesn't come out to say hi. She's declawed in the front (only) and does no damage to furniture.

Most of the time, even if it were allowed, we would NOT bring her along on a vacation because she is an indoor-only cat and we would not want to chance her getting out in an area in which she's not familiar, and so we usually get a sitter if we're going to be away. However, if we needed to have her along for some reason, she would be the perfect guest. She doesn't have that "dog smell" that stays behind, so you'd never know she had been there. I'm OK with resorts not allowing pets, but I do take some offense when a resort/hotel allows "pets," but defines pets as only dogs.

I do prefer to travel with a 6' 3 1/2" tall invisible white rabbit named Harvey. He's never caused any issues at timeshares we've stayed in.
;)

I don't know you in person, but if you have Jimmy Stewart's charm, intelligence, and moral fortitude you can bring whatever pet you choose. I am sure everyone you meet will be happy to meet your pet as well.

Just tell'em a Hookah smoking caterpillar has given you the call ...
Fabulous version of this by a great bluegrass band- Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway. We've seen them do this live a couple of times, including in Golden Gate Park, SF.

Cheers.

I now carry an EpiPen for my allergies - Cats are at the top of the list! Moving to Texas, I was allergic to every local Houston tree except the Texas Pine. I like in the Woodlands - it was a fun 2 years building up my immunity!

I can’t enter a “Cathouse” without swelling and losing the ability to breathe - I wrote this sentence specifically for @Eric B

I stated at a friends house and I stayed in the non-allergenic cat-free bedroom. I used my inhaler throughout the night, but I didn’t use the EpiPen - so it wasn’t life or death. But the allergy still persists. Doesn’t matter what state I live in.

My reason for writing this - Years ago - we were on a delayed flight LGB x/DFW MIA on AA - there was awful weather in DFW and they needed the LGB gate. We were dispatched from the LGB gate and then went to the end of the runway to sit - eventually they turned off the engine and and APU and we were connected to a portable forced air unit. Which is what airline use while they are at the gates. We all know they do not really work as nicely as the APU or engines to cool down the aircraft.

Within :20 minutes - my airway closed and I was gasping for breath - I was younger and didn’t make a fuss to the FA. The flight was practically empty and I asked the FA if I could move to the back of the airplane which had 15 open rows - After moving, I could breath again!

I found out after we landed, there was a cat in the row behind my original seat. (Family informed me). AND the owner had the cat out of the bag.

I get people need ADA service animals - we are not referring to those.

There is a couple that travel with their cats (cat carrier, not ADA or emotional support cats) that are on YouTube that fly UA and they are constantly removing them from their carriers and people think it’s cute and comment as much. OH HELLS NO!!!! Not cute and it also removes the barrier that kinda of protects me.

Going on about EMO-pets. I have extreme travel anxiety - I still go. I travel solo and there is no other person who could relieve this. I am an excellent candidate for a EMO-pet. So i find it amazing when I see a couple traveling together and one of them has a EMO-pet. Your spouse is your EMO-companion!

My rant is done!

We enjoy taking our dog with us when we travel. However, everyone that purchased HGVC, including us, bought with the knowledge that pets are not allowed. Therefore I believe it would not be reasonable to change the rules now.

I take my pet elephant everywhere I go. He is well behaved except when sticking his nose in other people's business.

I want to travel with a pet elephant 🐘! My memory is going. They could be my mEmo-Pet! 🤪 see what I did there!

HGVC Pet Policy:

No, pets are not permitted on Hilton Grand Vacations vacation packages or at Hilton Grand Vacations properties, with the exception of registered service animals, which are always welcome.

So to answer the OP's question, pets aren't allowed.

I think the OP is asking if they should be allowed, not if they are allowed. The answer to the former is a matter of opinion, the answer to the latter is already determined.

I know the official policy but saw so many who don't follow the policy at different HGVC locations & hence the ask, to see everyone's thoughts & opinions on this....
Glad I am not the only one, who would like everyone to follow the policy & NOT bring their pets to HGVC resorts (and not abuse the 'service dog' policy to sneak in their ESAs/pets)....

When I was younger, there were indeed “cathouses” that similarly affected me…! It’s been several decades, though.

Reddit's askhotels group is a good source of information about this subject matter. Oftentimes, hotel employees will engage in discussions along the lines of "what does your hotel do?".

Apparently, it is believed to be commonplace that people bring their pets and fraudulently say that they're necessary service animals. And there's no way of telling if the dog (or miniature horse) has really been trained to detect seizures developing or low blood sugar or whatever (there's many more things that service animals can allegedly do). And the ADA does NOT allow any front desk person/hotel manager to ask for any written documentation to that effect.

So, if you know how to answer those questions, Rover is IN. Even if Rover is the least trained, goofiest dog imaginable, it must and will be deemed a service animal with lifesaving skills.

Exactly what I was told by Park City HGVC staff :-( ...

I would say no pets is a good idea for most places.
