Do you rawdog? [rawdogging or sometimes 'barebacking,' means consuming no music, movies, or any other form of entertainment when flying]

I always use the dailymail as my go to source for real news
The Tori Spelling expose about the gap in her cleavage was a real eye opener

Wrong direction, gramps...

Barebacking was in common use in gay communities basically as long as we've had gay communities. Rawdogging is more recent. Neither had anything to do with meditation. That therapist is, as they say in the UK, "taking the [urine]."
Nothing to do with gay necessarily. People have used this term neutrally for decades.

You said "corrupting."

And that would be taking a nice, wholesome word and making it naughty. I have a dandy example of a "nice word gone bad," but this thread is probably already on thin ice.

I can think of words that are even more irredeemable than the above two. But not many.
Corruption can work in the opposite direction. I agree that these two words are irredeemable, but this seems to be an attempt to mainstream a vulgar expression. That is also a corruption of the vernacular.

I'll give you a prime example. When I was growing up I heard the term <rhymes with"stuck"> being said on television and inferred it just to mean a foolish person, or jerk. It wasn't until much later in life I was told the true Yiddish meaning of the word. I no longer use it even though it is reasonably accepted.

I suspect this article was written because some publicist for the author/psychologist being quoted pitched the story to a reporter who needed to file an article. It's a blatant plug for the woman's book. (I worked in PR for years, so know how the process works!)

I don’t fly much at all, but the last couple of times I only ate my snacks and did nothing else. I don’t want to lug my kindle though I do like reading. I don’t want to watch a movie on a cell phone. (and I have a small IPhone SE 3 and I don’t have an iPad and I don’t have Bluetooth ear things/headphones either)

What I really miss is having internet because I like to be on social media and peruse the internet. I can’t sleep on a plane either.

I’m really concerned what I’m going to do when we go to Italy on such a long flight and long 6 hour layover in an airport.

A Kindle is less than 6 oz and is very small. Can be tucked into the smallest of bags. Why wouldn't you bring this with? It's hardly "lugging".

For me the less stuff the better. Plus I keep it in a closed case and that adds a bit of bulk and weight. I rarely use the kindle at home even. Seem to always be on my phone.

Speaking of which- does anyone know how airplane wifi works and if it's worth it to purchase? I can't imagine being on a plane for 8 hours without using my phone. (yeah- I'm addicted to the connection it provides)

If you fly Delta and are a member of their SkyMiles program,
The WiFi is free

Each Airline has its own WiFi plan

On Delta the WiFi is very robust and allows broad access

Check with airline you are flying to see what wifi costs and if there is way to get it free

To each their own.

You can download podcasts or audio books on your phone to listen to.

Also the plane will have plenty of entertainment options on the little screen in the seatback. Movies, TV shows.

Some people require strict order, cannot tolerate changes or difficulties, and suffer anxiety at every corner. Others embrace change and uniqueness, roll with the punches, and carry a cest la vie attitude. The latter group will always fare much better with the uncertainness of travel.

Not to mention another charging plug. I already need to bring my eye mask with its charging plug due to my dry eye disease. Then the thing you use if your cell phone runs out of battery while you are out on the tour. Then the plug adapters. Then the lightning chords for the phones. Between the two of us with these gadgets and plugs it’s crazy.

I didn’t know they still had those little screens. Domestically I haven’t seen those. Seems everyone has to view stuff on their phones and pads.

I still would love to have WiFi on an 8 hour plane ride, though.

For sure. I’m the OCD one. I don’t like the loss of control. Unless you give me alcohol- then I can throw caution to the wind. 😂

You don't need a separate plug you just need the charging cable which may be the same type of cable that you use for other devices.

Hey - obviously "you do you" but if you love to read a Kindle seems like a no-brainer to me especially if you are anxious on how you are going to pass the time on a plane.

A simple google search provided me with this information. https://www.lufthansa.com/us/en/economy-class

When we are driving in a new Country we never get "lost." We are having an adventure.

No I honestly don’t love to read on Kindle. I’ve got the paper white and the fire and barely use them. Especially the fire. It’s sitting dormant in my desk draw for years.

The paper white I use everyday for my exercise book. I do have a lot of stuff on it to read, but seem to never get around to it.

I do need separate charging cables for the phone and mask for example. As for plugs- don’t I need to bring the converter plugs for overseas? How would I plug the charging cables in at the hotels?

At home we use actual plugs made for the charging cables.

Most likely all of these cables have one end is a USB. You only need a single USB charging block. Your hotels very well may have USB openings to charge next to the nightstand. Or you plug the charging block into the converter.

The usb end on my eye mask for example is different from the one on my IPhone SE3.

I have no idea what a charging block is.

I like traveling and adventure. I’m always up for a road trip. It’s just flying I hate. It really stinks these days. And that’s an understatement. TSA, baggage requirements, lousy and expensive airport food, last minute flight changes, delays, cancellations, crowds, etc. I hate all of it.

For example- We are going to Sicily (tour) from Boston the end of October. ( that alone is a 2 hour drive to the airport ( we’re hiring a car to take us and pick us up when we get home) and then the 2 hour wait, of course, before you even get on the plane)

You would think this wouldn’t be an issue. But no- flights all stink. Best we could get was fly into Munich with a 6 hour layover.

Couldn’t even get affordable premium economy seats since we are not arriving and departing from the same cities. So stuck in economy seats.

Well it’s a good thing we decided to go the day before our tour starts because now we have wasted a whole day at our expense ( flights, hotel, transfer - all extra $ because we are going the day before the scheduled tour). We thought by going a day earlier we could rest up and settle in. But no. We will be spending it mostly in an airport.

If we didn’t decide to go one day before, we actually would have missed the orientation dinner because of this. I only just realized it. We probably should have set it up to go 2 days before.

And- if something goes wrong with the connecting flight there are no other options.

So we have a tour to hook up with. If we were traveling independently it would be a little different in terms of flexibility.

Then on the way home from Naples- only one flight with only a one hour connecting flight. If we miss that- we’re screwed because nothing else available that day.

So that’s the kind of stuff that makes me insane. Once there, it should be great. It better be. These Odyssey Unlimited tours are expensive.
