Do you get up before sunrise or sleep in when you are in Vacation? What’s your routine or lack of?

I must admit.

I love sunrises as much as sunsets.

This is especially true in Puerto Vallarta and Hawaii.

So, I always get up early just to enjoy the sunrise. Then, I enjoy a bagel and a fresh cup of coffee. Then, who knows? Usually, it’s a walk on the beach if I am near one. If I’m not near a beach, I like to walk around to check out the shops.

On rare occasions, I get up early to do a full day activity or a tour. Sometimes, I grab the rental car and look for hiking trails.

So, what do you do? What’s your routine while vacationing? Do you even have a routine? Maybe it’s just get up whenever and plan something. Maybe it’s just laying on the beach.

I’m usually up before sunrise. If I’m at the beach and the weather is decent, I enjoy a couple cups of coffee on the balcony, watch the sunrise and listen to the waves. By then, DW is usually up and we like to go walk on the beach. Our plans for the day are usually limited to relaxing in the condo and dining at a good local restaurant.

If not at the beach, coffee and relaxing for a couple hours to begin the day. Then, we usually do some sightseeing throughout the day before finding a nice restaurant for dinner. Nothing too exciting but vacations are all about relaxing for us.

We are as slothful on vacation as we are at home. Time difference MIGHT get us up early the first two mornings in Hawaii, but that's about it.

Definitely sleep through most sunrises while on vacation. Neither my wife or me are early birds. On cruises, we always take late dining if we can't get anytime and we stay up late most nights, even at home.

You know, sometimes it’s fun laying in the beach like a monk seal.

However, my girlfriend hates sitting idle. I took her to Maui once and she got cranky. She likes go, go, go. So, I got a last minute flight to Honolulu and we bussed it everywhere. She was a happy camper.

Yup, if I want to be a lazy bum, she has to stay home. Oh my, I think she will get cranky then too. What to do...what to do.

It really depends. We live in the Pacific Northwest so heading east we do stay up longer. Heading east we stay up to about the same time as always but feel tired for a few days. I like no more than an one hour time zone change but tolerate hours going ahead better than hours going behind.

My routine changes depending on where we are.

I'm up most days at 6:30ish no mater where-(I seldom set an alarm)- unless a recent change of several time zones- then it takes a while to acclimate to the change. DW- not so much. She stays up a couple hours after I sack out.- and wake up time reflects that. I've always been an early riser. My dad got me a job delivering newspapers by age 12. During my working years (long haul trucking) I changed a time zone almost daily, so it's something you get used to.

In Wisconsin, I used to stay up late and then get up late and when we vacationed I would go to bed earlier and wake up earlier. Now in Hawaii I go to bed earlier around 8 and am up by 5:30am. On the weekend I get up a little later about 8am. My wife usually goes to bed earlier and gets up earlier but that has changed a little now that she is retired.

The Commander in Chief, loved to see the sunrise and sunset; even on a cruises.. I loved to lay in bed.

Zero routine. Each vacation is different. Weeks leading up to vacation vary widely. Sometimes I am more exhausted than others, different locations hold different interests for me.

Patti tends to go to Bed before me and sleeps later than me. I go to Bed about 10pm. I get up between 4 am and 5am local time. I have enjoyed many a sunrise.

Maybe just me. When I was raising kids (now all grown up), I found vacationing exhausting because I needed to keep the kids going. Not to mention, the process of packing and keeping the kids from killing each other was no fun.

Now, I just love vacationing! I think it’s because I do it purely for me. So, my plans do not include the needs of others per se. Now, I can get up early, enjoy my surroundings in peace and just be free of it all.

Stay up late and sleep in...don't see many sunrises! We’ve done a few tours to places that are hard to travel on your own and it was challenging to have to be up and ready to go as early as group tours do!

Insomniac since I was a kid...Hereditary...I'm up between 5 and 6am no matter where I am..Need sleeping pills to STAY asleep...Love getting up!!! Afraid I might miss something...haha

This. Beach vacation, sleep in. Recent cruise, alarm every day except for sea days as we had excursions booked.

Speaking of children and grandchildren that was the reason we purchased a second timeshare. We wanted to bring my son, his spouse and our two (2) grandkids.
We have travel all over the state of Virginia, North & South Carolina, California, Florida and we have taken two (2) Disney Cruises as a family. Awesome memories.
Those vacations were the very best years of timesharing fifteen (15) + years. Now it is only The Commander-in-Chief, my son and his spouse or my sister-in-law.

I certainly have to agree with you that the memories were great BUT the planning and keeping the kids going was exhausting.

Still was worth it though.

Today, I find as I get older I just enjoy chilling while on vacation. It’s peaceful for me. Kind of like grandpa on the rocker?

When we go to Kona, we go to Mauna Kea beach about 8:30 and leave around 2 o 3 pm. Go back to condo & clean up then depart to find interesting place to eat. When we go to Manhattan, we seldom leave the room before 11. Then we have breakfast or lunch, head to our matine, visit a museum then dinner or show or show then dinner.

Vacation in summer usually and up at sunrise or before.

No set time for wake up, my internal clock decides.

I wake up between 6:30 and 7:00 AM everyday no matter what time or where I go to bed. Now, getting dressed and getting going is another thing entirely.

I'm usually up ~6 am. I make coffee, prepare for outings & chill.
Meanwhile, DW will snooze until mid-morning, if possible.
I seem to marry women (2x) who like to sleep in.
