My husband and I are heading to Vero beach and are looking for suggestions. We would love to explore outside of the resort a bit. We would love some suggestions for dining, brewery or places for cocktails. We would also welcome suggestions for things to do.

As strange as it sounds - we have spent two weeks there on exchanges a long time ago and only left the resort once! I honestly don't even know what kept me so entertained that I didn't leave. But, assuming it is still there, across the street they had a nature walk. I enjoyed it and at the time someone had created an entire fairy village in the brush - about eye level for folks to enjoy. It was kinda cool stumbling across it, not sure if still there now.

There are quite a few restaurants and some nice spots for a drink on the island. Go south on the main road toward the Beachland Drive area at the ocean. It's a nice area to explore and an easy drive just five or so miles from the Disney resort.

Walking Tree Brewery, American Icon, Sailfish and Pareiodolia are all good brewery choices. There is a Treasure Coast Brewery tour you can do.

As for restaurants - Ocean Grill, Mobay Grill, Captain Hirams, Squid Lips. My two picks for sure would be Mobay Grill anf Squid lips.

In addition to the above, We have been to Captain Hirams sand bar, The Green Cabin (resort) for drinks, BlaCKfin Restaurant, Citrus Grillhouse, Riverside Cafe, Mulligan, Squid Lips, Ocean Grill (the best so far), Sebastian Roadside Restaurant and of course the resort's Wind & Waves Grill . There are others we want to try that I have heard are good. Baci, Waldos, CJCannon's, Vics, etc. etc.

Captain Bob's Airboat, Treasure Coast cruises/sunset cruises, waterspouts, McKee Botanical Gardens, Naval Seal Museum, Ft Pierce Smithsonian Museum....

We had a great lunch at Captain Hiram's and really enjoyed just walking around the little downtown. Also fabulous tacos from Chronic Tacos!

It is $200 now plus tax plus tip. Food is really delicious. At least, try once in a lifetime.

We had our Anniversary dinner in the main dining room maybe 15 years ago. It was quite the event and though expensive, I think it was reasonable for the experience. The speak easy feel with the booths above and the choreography bring out the meals were both very interesting. Also did an organized tour of the hotel. I think they've remodeled since then and given up some of the history for a more modern feel from what I can see in the photo's and hear for others.
