I have been planning a trip to Kauai and was hoping to stay at Waiohai in April 2013. When I called to reserve, there was no availability at Waiohai but I was able to reserve 10 days at Kauai Lagoons 2BR OV for only 3700 DC points. I have no idea why. I took the reservation knowing I can cancel if Waiohai becomes available later. Why the big discount for the reservation?

Just guessing, but in Hawaii many people want beach front properties, and the beach at Kauai Lagoons is small, rough seas, and difficult to reach. We stayed our week at Waiohai, and had the second week at Kauai Lagoons in Oct. of 2010. So we had our week of instant beach access, and already knowing about the beach, and wanting to spend some time to the North, the location of Kauai Lagoons worked, and we loved the spectacular ocean front view, the higher end appliances, furnishings and lanai in the villas, the pool and the staff. There was only one building open then, and I think the other two have opened, so there may not be the demand they'd like, and are cutting prices to fill the villas.

There are very few legacy weeks owners at Kauai Lagoons, and most other owners do not have enough points for a significantly long stay at Kauai Lagoons at the regular rates, so MVCI runs periodic discounts to fill the resort. I think this will change over time as more trust points are sold, but for now that is the best explanation I can think of. (DC was introduced within 2 or 3 months after Kauai Lagoons started sales, if I recall correctly).

I used to own at Waiohai and stayed at Kauai Lagoons last month. Kauai Lagoons is the most upscale timeshare I have ever stayed in.

Thanks for the responses

I am happy to save the points. My wife and I are pool people more than beach people so I think this could work out pretty well. Now I have enough points left for another week somewhere. I was just a little stunned by the discount. It made me wonder if the resort had some issues. Thanks again.

The only issue Kauaii Lagoons has is that the units are so beautiful you want to move in. These were designed as condos so there is a separate laundry room, broom closet, and walk in closet in the master, lots of storage and large entry hallway, upscale appliances and cookware. (subzero fridge and induction stove top)

There are one or two full time owners there carried over from the Ritz Carlton days. They have designated parking spots.

We were there on reduced DC points this January.

We are not beach people, but enjoyed a lot of time on the spacious lanai. DH golfed several times. The price went down after the first round.

KL inventory for 3BR OF

We are planning going two weeks in April in 2013, already have Maui Lahaina & Napili Tower for a week and have been watching for inventory at Waiohai. No inventory yet for April, but go 12 months out and there is inventory. Assuming inventory for April 2013 once we get 12 months out.

I did the same as timtax and there is a lot of inventory for a KL 3BR OF for 3775 DC Points! I am tempted but we will have 3 of my grandkids and want a beach. But at that price for one of the best units around and great view has me thinking....

Good afternoon

At KL just a short shuttle ride from a nice lagoon beach at KBC.... The3 bedroom of unit is just spectacular ... See my thread 25th anniv. Trip

As always thanks for your input. Between your comments from previous threads and the fact we went to KL for the tour and saw the beautiful view there I am really thinking about staying there instead of Waiohai.

With the small ones Waiohai has the beach (we love the beach and pool areas) and the activities it is holding me back at this point.

Also getting a 3 BR (extra good with 3 kids) for 2200 points less then Waiohai 2 BR, I am starting to move toward KL. The wife likes this too and the view... So to help me make the right decision, I have a few followups if you could be so kind.

1. The shuttle to KBC, how often does that run? Do you have full access to KBC activities and pool too?
2. Can we use Waiohai pool and beach too, is there some kind agreement with them?
3. When we went through KL tour they had some construction going on for a restaurant and stores. Do you know if that is finished?
4. The KL pool, does it have a slide or kid friendly environments?

If we were all adults it would be a no brainier, but if kids want to make sure from someone who has stayed on site. 2200 DC points can go a long way for some more stays :D

Thanks much.

Good evening...

Shuttle comes within 5 minutes of calling them....

No reciprocity with Waiohai...

Plenty of shops at KBC,but doubt the shops at KL will be ready anytime soon

I believe pool at KL has slide, but it is small and quiet.not lots of little ones to play with... You cannot use pool at KBC,just beach

Please call to check on slide

Hope this helps

Pm me your address,on Sunday will send you KL pics....

Hope this helps

Just returned from Kauai, spent three nights at KL, followed by a week at Waiohai. Frankly KL is spectacular. We stayed in a two bedroom on the third floor in Building C overlooking the pool, the ocean and the entry to the harbor. We watched Cruise ships come and go and you can walk down the the overlook and see it up close. It is obvious that these units were supposed to be Ritz Carlton based on the size (at least 20% larger than Waiohai). We used KL for a base in exploring the East and North Shore then moved to Waiohai for our Ocean View (Hale 1, third floor, right above where the sales center was) and beach and snorkeling. All in all, great 10 days perfectly located to explore all the beauty of Kauai. We will be going again in 2014, and if KL is available, we will probably book a week at each resort.

I booked two separate 10-Day vacations, one for my family, one for the in-laws.

So no one answered the question about construction. we're staying April/May 2013. How much construction is there now? I'm assuming in 2013, a lot of it will be done.

And how soon should I be looking for airfare?

Timtax,

Just my thoughts based on an owners wine and cheese we attended at SurWatch this spring.

While the salespeople were discussing the DC points, they mentioned that the point values would change over time, based on demand. So perhaps as has already been mentioned, the demand for this location is less and that's the reason for the discount.

We haven't stayed there but did drive around the property last year while lin Kauai at the KBC. Looks very nice even without the beach. Enjoy your time there!
