Dining advice

Should we just cancel the dining package and attend the 10pm show?
That’s what I would do. The 10 PM show is usually much less crowded than the first show, and you could get in line at 9:30, maybe even later, and still get a good seat. There won’t be any dining packages for that show, so the center sections that are reserved for dining packages at 8:30 will be open to everyone for the 10:00 show.

The boats and Skyliner may or may not still be running - they usually shutdown about an hour after park closing, so 10:30 that night. But it’s not that bad a walk back to BC, and buses are usually running if other transport is down.

@heathpack Two different takes on what to do for Fantasmik….if you cancel make sure it’s within the time guidelines. Either choice is good. It’s a great show.
Your plans for the future sound well thought out. It sure does feel good when you are at a point in life where you are comfortable, have a nest egg, no work worries, and can travel when you want. But taking good care of yourself, doing proper screenings, and all that is important. Although in Mr No Mores case he didn’t do anything wrong; however, when he was obviously struggling with his normal workout routines and having coughing issues and breathing issues…..should have visited his doctor sooner. Very fortunate he got a second chance with life. Have the best time on your upcoming trip.

Not know if your aware
But it’s magical dining month in Orlando
Amazing deals on so many nice restaurants
Worth looking up

Several are in Disney springs etc
But lots of great deals
Lunch and dinner
Plus a small portion goes to the Orlando food bank

Yeah I did see that. Disney Springs is not super convenient from where we’re staying. The nearby ones (Swan and Dolphin) had unappealing (to us) menus.

I rescind my above comment: we booked Amare in the Swan Reserve for Friday dinner. Its $40/person for a 3 course meal. Looks really good.

Today I cancelled the Fanstasmic dinner package for the last night of our trip. We will wing it with the second showing of Fanstasmic. I like this plan because it gives us good flexibility if the weather is bad, and we'll get a better meal for less $ at Amare.

Current plan is:
Mon: Polite Pig 2 QS credits
Tues: Breakfast in room (or possibly but probably not Olivias), Late lunch early dinner EPCOT Regal Eagle split 1 QS, La Cantina de San Angel split 1QS + 2 items from Mexico festival booths, then free Welcome Home Week ice cream from Living Seas, then monorail to the halloween party
Wed: Brunch at Ale and Compass, Dinner at Toldeo
Thurs: Brunch at Ale and Compass, Dinner at Festival Booths (or possibly Cape May)
Fri: Breakfast Ronto wraps, dinner Amare
Sat: Breakfast Cake Bake

We will bring some groceries for light meals (breakfasts, sandwiches, salads, some poolside snacks), not sure how much we'll actually use but its nice to have options if we don't feel like keeping all the plans. We'll be in a 1BR so might as well use it if we so choose.

I am thinking the food will come in at around $650-$700, assuming our usual bar tabs.

Overall I like the mix of QS/FW booths and scheduled respite type meals. We will hit up Rosa and Bar Riva on another visit.

I don’t know if you have time or desire
But seaworlds aquarium restaurant is on the list
Food is amazing and it’s very cool
Plus if you go at 3 pm
You get free parking and free admission for the rest of the day at seaworld
I’ve done that many times
Truly a great perk

No we don’t have the time. We’re only 4 full days in the World. Definitely too short of a trip to head over to Sea World.

Thanks, again! Just got back from eating at Cape May. For the 40% discount, it was fine and I’d do it again. For full price, I’d rather eat at Boma’s or Blue Zoo (for seafood). It reminded me of a Princess/RCI 🚢 seafood buffet.

I could eat two plates of those steamed clams. Can’t beat 40% off. Glad you got to enjoy and get the 40% off. Enjoy the rest of your stay. Seems the days are dragging by for me….

We have arrived to our 9 point studio (whoops we got an upgrade) 1BR at OKW. 🍀

Met up on the drive down with my Cast Member cousin who gave us six snack vouchers that she can’t use and are expiring soon. Good for Mickey bar, frozen banana, Mickey pretzel, and similar items. Just what we need: more food! 😛

Never heard of upgrades. Congrats! Did you bribe front desk?

I have seen reports of it happening once in a while and usually from Studio to 1BR. Could be there was a problem with the Studio room that needed attention and so they were moved to another room. And with DVC there always seems to be way more 1BR availability than for Studios.

@heathpack whoohoo! Surprise upgrades are great. We’ve been pixie dusted a number of times…..I guess it happens often when you go often. I’ve never had a 1BR at OKW but hear they are huge! You might feel squished at BC. Great way to start your trip. Mmmm on Mickey pretzels. Enjoy. Happy for you. Hope your trip down was uneventful.

Our room still wasn’t ready at 4:30, and then we were given a 2nd floor room. I had requested a ground floor room, since we’re only here one night and have to load up again tomorrow. I almost didn’t ask since room requests aren’t guaranteed but… then I did ask if they had something on the first floor and they came back with the 1BR. Actually very nice for us because we plan on eating breakfast in tomorrow and now it can be a hot breakfast on actual plates. 😎

We went to the Polite Pig using our QS dining plan. We paid $118 for the dining plan for 2 people during our 1 night OKW stay. We got the Butcher Board for 2 credits, plus a wheat beer and a grapefruit margarita. Everything was delicious. I think our meal rang up for $71 or $73. Then we split an ice cream sandwich courtesy of my cousin. We are stuffed!

We moved over to BCV today, had requested early check in on account on the Halloween party and our room was ready at 11am! Of course we were unaware of that because our phones were safely locked up while we were Typhoon Lagooning. We got checked in and settled and then headed over to Epcot to use up our remaining dining credits, then free ice cream courtesy of DVC as part of Welcome Home Weeks.

We used all of our remaining credits (2QS meals + 2 snacks) in Mexico, at La Cantina de San Angel and the Mexican FW Festival Booth. We got two orders of beef tacos, a beer and a pina colada (top shelf margarita is now sadly disallowed on QSDP), plus from the festival booth, one flauta and one tostada. Totals that rang up were $63 + $16.50.

Total value on QSDP was $152 + the marginal (to us) value of the mugs, we paid $118. Everything we ate was tasty. It was a “deal” and I’d do it again for a day, or a few days.

Counter service dining plan is the way to go for one night. You really nailed it. I hope you enjoyed the Halloween party. They do an excellent job. How many times did you get on Tron? And room ready at 11? That is amazing. Hope we are as lucky.
Enjoy your bagful of candy!

Halloween Party: Never again!
We arrived around 6 and got 1 candy at entrance. Mr H was shocked that Carousel of Progress was still operational. We rode that, came out to find it raining and app was down. Wanted to ride something nearby and Buzz was down. We found an electronic screen with wait times, most lines were long (there was a long line for the People Mover!) but Jungle Cruise was short so we headed over to ride that and Pirates. The rain ended while we were on JC, and the app came back up. When we finished the festivities started, we saw a couple of long lines for treats and didn't bother. Watched the Pirate Band which was good, them went over around 7:30 to wait for the 8:15 parade. After waiting for 45 min it was delayed over and over again. At 8:30, we decided to give up on the parade and try to do something else. However, zero entertainment was happening so treat lines were 25-30 min long (no way) and most rides we were interested in were 40ish minutes long. I was there to see the parade and fireworks, so I didn't want to invest 40 min into waiting for a ride with now unknown times of the 1st parade, fireworks, 2nd parade and Hocus Pocus shows (the things we paid the money to see). It it was basically wandering around (inconveniently because the park was roped off for the parade) listening to announcements about the parade being cancelled, not knowing if any of the things we attended to experience would ever happen, not being able to do anything for fear of missing out on what you were there to do. All of this and it was only threatening to rain, not actually raining. We finally gave up and left.

We rode 3 rides, got 1 piece of candy each, watched the Pirate band show, and then stood or wandered around for 2 hours. Never again! After we got back to the room, I opened the app and there was a message that the 11:15 parade was moved up to 10:45. I think the first one was eventually cancelled. Prior to that, there were no entertainment updates in the app. I'm not sure what time that message was sent out, maybe 10pm. I don't know if the second parade and fireworks happened but the party prior to that was zero fun. Just a very crowded park day.

I think the bottom line is that these parties are too expensive and weather dependent and non-refundable (you have to commit well in advance of knowing the weather). Disney has your money and therefore no incentive to have a plan B for the weather (walk around and give out treats to people waiting for the parade, open twice as many treat lines, have plan B entertainment indoors, put more ride cares into service, provide updates in the app so party goers have some idea what to expect- or at the very least set up at treat line of amazing generosity at the exit for the frustrated people who give up and leave early to suggest that you regret your party was so unenjoyable that you'd want to make it up). Its pure arrogance on their part and that settles it for me: no way would I pay for one of these upcharge events again.

We will be back at Christmas and I was trying to decide between Mickeys Christmas party and Jollywood Nights but now the answer is crystal clear: absolutely not on either! At least I have that clarity.

What a total rip off.

I just found an update on Facebook: The first parade was cancelled, the second parade happened early but was turned into a cavalcade, the fireworks went off and the midnight Hocus Pocus show happened. Sounds like there was no scheduled entertainment from 7-10:45 (except that Pirate band show we saw), creating long lines and a poor experience while we were there, and the last 1 hr 15 min of the 5 hour event was likely a more typical Halloween party experience.

so treat lines were 25-30 min
They may have looked long, but they move very fast. It is incredibly unlikely that you would have waited more than 5 minutes or so. I’m sorry that you had such a poor experience.

Have you contacted guest services to see if they would give you a credit for a future party or something? They’ve been known to do that in situations like this.
