Anyone want to join me in a 3 month challenge? I just signed up on line tonight and found a meeting pretty close to me that is on Mondays at 9am. Sooo, I am going to committ to 3 months of dieting to lose the last 10 pounds of my pregnancy weight that I have carried for about 3 years now.

Anyone interested in joining me in the challenge? I'd rather not do it alone! ;) My goal is to loose a measly 10 pounds in 3 months. I know it sounds lame but I am the world's worst dieter. And I want to keep it off forever. So I am not setting my sights on a huge loss -- just a realistic one.

Summer is almost upon us so I better get cracking...

Katherine

I've been tracking my food intake carefully via WeightWatchers online for about a month now and I've lost 5 pounds. I think I will start attending meetings, too, so I can get lifetime status when I reach my goal.

I have a few more pounds to lose than ten. :) I am going to try Body for Life again, and I am not going to eat all of the food he wants me to eat. I did it before and lost quite a bit of weight, but this time, I am very determined.

I am going to try Body for Life

That's no good!! I want to get rid of a fair proportion of this body - for life :)

Seriously though, good luck to all who are setting out on the annual "I can't wear a swimsuit looking like this" diet.

Can I catch up with you June 1st? Too much going on with the end of the school year to make a solid commitment. As soon as school is out my plan is to be at our health club at least 5 days a week.

I started out doing weight watchers (for 1 year and on and off afterwards). I lost 78lbs on Weight Watchers, however the closer I got to my goal weight the hungrier I got. Then I started doing Body For Life (www.bodyforlife.com) a free program, and transformed my body into a sexy muscled machine. Now I want to slim it down a bit more and am doing the P90X program. My only problem with Body for life is that its hard for me to live by that diet of 6 meals a day with a carb/protien. I liked Weight Watchers as it allowed me to indulge a little each day with those extra points.

I am trying to lose 25lbs I gained while living in a hotel while my new home was being built last year, and so far I have droped 10 lbs on Weight Watchers (and exercised 4 days a week).

The key to success, JOURNAL....you have to write down all that you eat, believe it or not, when you have to write it down you eat less, ATTEND the meetings, accountability keeps you in line....EXERCISE... at least 3 days a week for 35-45min (or up to 1 hr), and on the days you don't exercise, walk, go up and down steps just for the heck of it....just get moving.

:cheer: Good luck on your weight lost endeavor...WW is a great program.

Does the online program work?

Has anyone been successful (or not) with Weight Watchers online? I don't want to go to meetings, plus the location is inconvenient.

I did WW online for about a year and lost almost 80 lbs. It works if you are faithful to the pgm.

You can also try www.sparkpeople.com -- it's free! I learned about this site from another tugger.

It's cited in meetings that those who attend meetings are three times more successful on average.

I joined years ago, dropped 80 lbs over 18 months and have regained about 30 of it. I keep going to meetings, if only to keep me from regaining all of it, but the timing is right to get back down and on to goal.

I'll join your challange & do it with you Katherine. I'll PM you with my e-mail and contact info so we can share notes and support one another.

I've had success with the flex plan online. You have to be consistent about entering ALL your food intake and stop eating when you've reached your limit.

I like the recipes that are available online, particularly the zero points value slow cooker soup. Also, the menu suggestions are usually simple to prepare and are good choices for timeshare kitchens.

Ive been on the flexplan for almost 2 months and have only lost 8 pounds. I just joined the spa so I can go in the pool. Its getting better weather now so I can do more outside.

The best thing for me is that I am eating wiser. I pay more attention to what I eat. I will munch on fresh strawberries and veggies instead of ice cream and chocolate. I have to work on my portions.

The bad thing is that my wine glass is only half full and I only drink good beer because thats 3 pts. :D

I am with you! I started last WW week. I have many more lbs than you to lose, and my health is starting to suffer from the weight. I like the WW program because you can eat with anyone, anywhere. Just less of it!!!:D

I am heading to the carribbean for 2 weeks, and I hope it is the last vacation I wear the size I am taking with me. I also intend to track everything I eat--even if I spurge a bit while I am there. My goal is to be conscious of everything I am eating and to avoid getting carried away--e.g., 1 rum drink, not 3.

Good Luck to you!

Yay for you, Katherine! I lost 25 lbs on the "email diet," which I made up with a good friend of mine (I should trademark it or something, it really worked!). We emailed each other every day what we were eating. It made a huge difference when I had to write it all down and report to someone, so I pretty much cut everything I ate in half. If it will help, you can email me what you eat :) and I can help keep you on track. I still email my friend every day, and it's been two years now! The most I've gained back is 7 lbs (I blame the chocolate addiction I have, which surpasses my timeshare addiction), so I have to keep emailing to keep it off.

Now I need the "email exercise regime" or something like that, because I really need to be getting more exercise :D .

Good luck! 10 lbs in 3 months is a great goal :cheer: !

Thanks! I would love to email you and have you "babysit" me and my diet! I too am a HUGE chocolate addict so I can use all the help I can get. I am exercising regularly but my portions need help and my chocolate addiction needs desperate treatment!

I have two ideas if anyone is interested.

1) set up an email list outside of TUG and we can email eachother and provide support and encouragement.

2) we can just keep a thread going here on the TUG Lounge each week and talk about weight loss topics and provide encouragement.

Is anyone up for the challenge?? I weighed in today and started keeping track of all my points! I don't think this has to be limited to WW by the way. Just about any diet is painful so anyone is welcome.

Katherine

chocolate addiction

I'm ok without chocolate if I go cold turkey - I haven't had any now for several weeks, and I don't really want any. But just one bite or whiff, and any chocolate that I can get my hands on goes right into the tummy. The trick (for me at least) is to not have any for long enough to get over it. I don't know if a chocolate addiction has ever been determined to really be physical, but I think it might be.

I'm in!

I've been on WW for a few weeks and have lost 7 lbs. by tracking points on-line and going to meetings. My goal is to lose another 11 lbs.

Great idea to set up a challenge!

I love WW cause I didn't have to totally give up chocolate. They have these awesome chocolate caramel bars (only 2 points) and I eat those when I get in the mood for chocolate. Actually I treated myself to those on Fridays, my weight in day.

Good luck.

I followed the WW points program awhile ago. It did work, I attended weekly meetings with a friend. We both weren't big exercisers, but I found attending with a friend we were more inclined to at least go for long walks.
Not to put a damper on WW, because they do have a good program, but when you go for your weigh-in, also get a good scale and weigh yourself at home. We had been going for awhile, when all of a sudden when we show up they tell us oops our scale was wrong so we've added 5 lbs. to your weight.:annoyed: I ended up contacting a gov't agency, who contacted them and they had to give us a refund and free weeks. But it worked out in the end and I did lose the weight. The only thing I find, is when I have to calculate my daily points I seem to think about food ALL the time, so I plan ahead and set up my meal plans the night before and then just follow it for that day.

Portion Control....

I measure every portion by my palm of my hand, and whenever I eat out I always split the meal in 1/2, limit to 1 helping of bread (equivalent of 1 slice) and skip dessert. Also, I realized I used up too many points for breakfast, so I purchased breakfast bars (2 points) that allow me to eat on the go. I also, prep before going out, and if I don't I stick to the soup/salad combo. Its just easier that way. I also made a promise in the begining when I wasn't used to working out AT ALL to do at least 8 min of exercise a day....so I purchased some dvd's from amazon that broke up the exercising into 8 min (I started with a walking video, 8 minute taebo, then a 8-minute arms/abs/thighs/legs) and slowly worked into it, now I exercise 4/5 days a week for 45-55min, who would of thunk it.... You can do it to, just start of slow and add a bit more each week, keep a journal and pics of your progress. Also, it helped me be successful by doing this by myself, not depending on anyone to work out with me, and I also liked being in WW because I always had a friendly face at the meetings.

I'm in too. I need this to nudge my efforts along. Two days of consistent journaling and excercise...and counting. :D

I joined weight watchers neary 3 months ago and down 15 lbs so far. Must admit that the first 4 were the month before weight watchers. My dh is going too and is down about 22lbs. It really helps for both of us to be doing it at the same time. We are really lucky and found out that his former company's wellness program will pay for up to 6 mos a year when he said I could go and tell him what to do, I said, Oh, no, you go too. It doesn't work if I tell him what to do. We are point counters on flex. Mine is not a great weight loss, but it keeps going down. I am happy. Good luck to all.
