Did I get a terrible deal?

I would fall into this category. I dont have children and im not married. I might travel with another single friend, and I personally will go wherever has a decent price and im not spending $3000 to travel the world.... i went to Honduras for 5 days and the entire trip, Flights, Stay and everything was about $700-800 in Indura Resort in Tela.

That is the only experience I have with traveling abroad but now im addicted to the cheapest deals in the best places so im hanging on to every word you guys tell me. I want to be a travel pro!
so the exact opposite use case of a timeshare

I dont understand?
Traveling based on finding deals sounds more like short term case by case travel.

Timeshares require strategic long term planning, both in their acquisition and their usage, to get the best bang for the buck.

Ohh! Thank you for clarifying. Im sure there might be something out there i'll want to continue going back to, I just havent found it but i'll be very informed once im ready to make that decision.

We have the best of both worlds:

1) we own timeshares in locations we use (Maui Westin Oceanfront peak season, NYC)
and
2) We have resale traders in both HGVC and Vistana (we are flexible about locations and love the hunt to see what we can exchange.) One is a Vistana week which we acquired for free from another Tugger. (I paid $250 LT Transfers Fee). I hope to trade for ski weeks or beaches in Vistana or Marriott System. When we are finished we will rehome it again for free with another Tugger.

If you are really looking for the best bang for your buck in the HGVC system, I would price a resale LV Blvd or Elara deed (1 or 2 BR), and if you are very flexible with your travel, wait for the “sales”, where stays can have reduced points needed for stays which are in the off seasons, and/or only stay Sunday-Thursday (half the points of Thu-Sunday stays).

You will have to decide how you amortize the total purchase price over the length of your ownership. When you have the annual maintenance fee/point value, you can calculate the cost of a room/night and determine if the value justifies the cost.

I would do this exercise for a few different scenarios and decide whether the cost/ accommodation makes sense to you or not.
