Does Desert Breezes, rated a 5 star resort, exchange well with II? I found some years ago it was a rather weak trader with RCI. I've since let my RCI membership lapse and I wondered if II might be better.

Thanks for the feedback.

this resort is always available for exchange, so i suspect that it's a weak trader.

Has II Trading Power model changed??

Thanks for the feedback. That sounds similar to RCI. But I remember from some years ago that II was supposed to have a different approach to trading power, one more directly reflecting the size and quality of unit and less to do with supply and demand. So that if I were to give them a 2 bed, 5 star unit in high season, that would be what I'd get in exchange. Has this changed???

I don't think Desert Breezes is a 5* resort. It's a silver thingy rating at II. You would be able to trade a 2 bedroom for a 2 bedroom at a resort of similar quality. I rarely trade mine since I love staying there, but on the few occassions when I have traded, I use TPI or II. I've exchanged it for Kona Hawaiian Resort in a 2 bedroom. My 2009 week got me an AC at II. I exchanged the deposit for Highlands Inn and the AC for Lawrence Welk.

Not big time but decent exchanges. I'm happy with the exchange power.

Desert Breezes is not listed as a Premier or Select resort. Premier and Select replaced the 5 star rating this year.

It is a standard resort and will probably be a mediocre trading unit.

Thanks for Feedback

Thanks Barndweller for the feedback. It's very helpful to hear of your actual exchanges, which I must say were not too shabby at all!!

I did call II today and discovered GMarine is right, Desert Breezes is longer rated 5 star. It's listed in the TUG review section as 5 star so I guess that has not been updated yet. It seems II has also changed their model for assigning trading power and now use a "Travel Demand Index," which seems to be based on supply and demand, similar to RCI's formula.

The II rep said if I give them a very high demand week, like a major holiday or event, it will trade better. What week did you use Barndweller?

I gave them a March week. It is impossible to trade into Palm Springs during Feb/March period except for studios. The Marriott people all lock off and the studios are all that are available. Christmas week is also a high demand.

The low rating for DBR is an example of why I ignore those ratings. It is a great place but doesn't have some of the bells & whistles that get the golden pineapple thingy. No swim up bar, no in-room jacuzzi, no duvets on the beds, no over priced restaurant on site.

But it does have FREE midweek tidy service, 3 nice pools, tennis courts, very pleasant grounds and a great front desk staff.

Thanks Barndweller for the info about the week you used. I didn't realize Feb and March were such a tough exchange period in Palm Desert. That's good to know.

I agree with you. We love going to DBR. It's a great resort and very well located, especially if you like tennis and want to go to the Pacific Life Open. It's so convenient to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden!
