I have some expired points that will expire the end of the year. I have advertised them but no luck. Is there anything else I can do with them before losing them?

Maybe try booking something for a holiday week(end) and try renting that out?
That would involve a reservation fee + a guest certificate. So, it would need to be pretty high demand to guarantee you'd get rid of it.

Another choice is to book a week and deposit it into an independent exchange company. SFX is a good one for that. You'll still have those same fees as above and then an exchange fee in SFX when you decide to book your exchange.

Assuming you are talking about RCI, RCI does not permit exchanges to be rented, and that's probably why you haven't had any takers.

I am not sure how it works with Hilton, but you may be able to exchange the expiration date by making a new deposit, and combining the points.

Can you book a short stay before or after a holiday ? Good luck.

RCI Deposit. Members may deposit current- year ClubPoints or previously deposited ClubPoints into the RCI Exchange Program for future weekly and nightly RCI exchange reservations. RCI deposits are valid from the date of deposit through an additional two calendar years. Once ClubPoints are deposited into the RCI Exchange Program, the transaction is final and ClubPoints may not be returned to a Member’s Club account. An RCI Deposit Fee applies. An RCI Exchange fee will be charged at the time of confirmation or the initiation of an RCI search request.

ClubPoints Protection. On or before December 1 of each year, Members may pre-plan to preserve remaining ClubPoints through the RCI Deposit or Rescued Points Deposit options described above. Participants will be charged the applicable transaction fee on or around December 15 when the ClubPoints are deposited or rescued. Members may elect to participate in ClubPoints Protection and select a protection preference on an annual basis. Only one automatic deposit option per account permitted. Previously rescued points are not eligible for ClubPoints Protection. An $99 Fee applies and credit card must be valid through 12/31/14 to enroll.

If you mean they are still in hgvc and have not been deposited to rci and you can't use them in before 12/31/14 can't you just make an rci reservation by 12/31/14 for a checkin that will occur by 12/31/15. That way you avoid the rci deposit fee but still have to pay the rci exchange fee.

Denise, these were HGVC points not used last year and were deposited in my account for use this year..They expire the end of year.

Dave, it sounds like I may be able to deposit them then. Thanks

If all else fails, I will take a non planned vacation, rather than lose them..

I'm sorry - I didn't realize the HGVC used the term "deposited." That usually refers to an exchange company.

I agree that the term "deposited" was confusing in reference to HGVC. Actually, I think the more correct term would be "rescued" -- you can "rescue" HGVC points that are about to expire and they will be good for one more year (with some restrictions). See SmithOp's post above.

To the OP: If you can't take another vacation this year, I think the best alternative is to use them for an RCI reservation for some future year -- it just has to be booked this year before the points expire.

I just closed on my timeshare and still waiting on log in info to play around with options online. I have 2680 points this year and will get 5000 every year going forward. I won't use this years 2680 this year....so.....in your opinions, what is the best thing I can do with the 2680 for using it next year along with the 5000 that I will get. Basically I am asking, do I put the 2680 in hgvc next year somehow or rci. Thoughts? What is best for fees? What is best for options? What would you do? We are leaning towards a hawaii trip.

No question, the highest value way to use HGVC points is within HGVC.

What I would do is as soon as you get access, rescue your 2014 points into 2015. Then you have the most flexibility you can book a 2015 trip with HGVC, book a 2014 trip with HGVC and if you cancel those points will go back to 2015 rather than coming back to 2014, or make an RCI reservation.

If you use HGVC points to make an RCI reservation its cheaper (just exchange fee) than depositing (fee) and then using those points to make a reservation (exchange fee).

I'd put them back into HGVC unless you are 100% sure you want a trade in RCI. RCI doesn't really offer much comparable in exchange. Plus, they charge too much for exchanges. If you are planning for Hawaii, you may as well stay in a HGVC resort because there are plenty on 2 islands. Having additional points for the Hawaii trip will be nice because you can either use them for a longer stay or better room.

Also, if you rescue to HGVC you can use for either HGVC or RCI. Whereas if you rescue/deposit to RCI, you can only use in RCI.
My account shows either transaction for $76. online or $99. on the phone.

Thank you both. Great info. That is why I asked. I did not know that if you rescued to hgvc you still have the option for rci. I am pretty sure we will be doing the hgvc property in hawaii but would consider rci props if there was one that is nice with good value.

We do see that Aulani within RCI but have read around the forum how it is virtually impossible to book. Is that place possible to get in 2015 or 2016? I assume I set up an ongoing search only because that is what I have read but not totally clear on how it works without having access.

You could get a trade to Aulani. You would set up an ongoing search and then you have to wait for a long time for a match. The matches are coming in around 6 months out, I believe. So, you could book a HGVC and then cancel that if the exchange for Aulani comes through.

Oh. That's awesome. Thanks Presley! I will give it a shot.
