Denied Access to Owners Update without Spouse

Sounds good to me . Just tell a little story that your spouse is not on vacation with you. LOL

I have heard that some owners use the excuse that they brought their boyfriend/girlfriend this trip and left their spouse at home.

Perhaps they brought both and left the spouse home?

Cheers.

I was solo at a resort late last year and the Concierge told me it was too bad my wife wasn‘t with me as they ”offered a $200 gift card”. Brought my wife on the next trip and not even a sniff of an offer. We were only there for two nights and didn’t have much extra time, so I would have been a firm no thanks.

My ex had a different last name, which she kept.
So, when we divorced, she didn't need to change it.
My current wife took mine 'cux mine was shorter: 1 syllable vs 4.
Ha! My ex took my name.
When we got divorced, she KEPT my name.
She got pregnant out of wedlock and had a kid I've never seen who now has my name.
My current wife kept her name.
We have a child who has my name. - Sometimes, she has difficulty identifying as the child's mom since the names don't match.

I have attended several Diamond presentations without DW. I tell them she refuses to attend but I'm willing to go without her. Of course, there's no gifts and they don't get credit for making a pitch. I just go out of curiosity, preferable on a rainy day. I often get the newest hire and they practice their presentation on me. The last time I went, the guy got angry with me for wasting his time. I don't attend them anymore.

The problem I’ve had is getting a salesman to take that tour. No gifts I can live with, but the salesman generally knows this is actually going to be the update they try to tell you it is, and they’d rather have a better shot at making a sale or go home early to enjoy their day.

Seems the OP is another fly by poster who only cares to complain and not interested in TUGs advice.

It's a sales presentation. No matter what they call it, it's a sales presentation. They don't offer gifts just to give information. There is no such thing as an OWNER'S UPDATE. They are trying to sell. Take a look at the fine print for what they offered you. Quite certain it says that you both have to be present.

To learn the reality of these changes (and there have been quite a few, as you say), you've just joined the right place. You will not get that from the supposed "Owner's Update."
You can go on a non-sales Owner’s update. (Vistana still does them) But you will not get any gifts for doing so. Gifts = sales presentation.

Having sold TSs, this is a perfect no-down-side scenario. Since there is no gift, it does not count against your tour average and there is always the possibility of making a sale. The people I know love doing these.

For years when my sister vacationed with us they allowed her to combine her sales presentation with our (husband and myself) owners update. We all felt there was this weird element of single female in need of assistance, not capable of understanding the complexities of the timeshare program. My sister of course loved it. She let me do all the talking then happily collected her $100-$200 in Hilton Hawaiian Bucks and immediately went shopping, I kid you not.

I would consider going on an HGV sales tour, but if they ask about my wife, I will tell them to give me a couple days, I need to dig her ashes out of the ground. Can I afford it? No (at least not until I get her malpractice settlement sometime within the next 60 months). But, the $250 for 3 nights + lots of Hilton Honors points is a pretty good deal for wasting 120 minutes.
