Delete private information about yourself!

It seems that I really have no children, neither does my husband. But my husband's ex-wife, who passed away 2 years ago, does and she lives with us!! I guess we let her live here since she is also the only one who owns her own home, who knew??

My husband is also listed under 2 names - his legal name and the name he uses (his middle name). Under his legal name he is caucasion, under the name he goes by - AfricanAmerican. My daughter will be 20 in June - according to the website she is late 20's, college degree, owns her own home.

I really enjoyed learning that my 82 year old mother loves to play basketball AND baseball!! I don't think she has ever even SEEN a ballgame :hysterical:

hmmm...me smells a scam. Why would someone take so much time to post so much erroneous info about so many people? I mean, you can pull correct info from anywhere, but you have to CREATE falsehoods to pull this off. I think a previous poster hit the nail on the head. They WANT you to click on and "remove" your info, so they have REAL access to you!

Could be. But an easy workaround is to open a bogus Hotmail, gmail, or other phony email account for the sole purpose of responding to this type of thing. Jim

Better still, don't put out a lot of personal information out there to begin with.

It's one of the reasons you won't find my picture here. I used to be a lot more cavalier about my information. But I learned the hard way that the Internet ain't Mayberry RFD.

So now I don't post any personal info.

PS -- I recommend not posting information like address, telephone, pictures, schedules, vacation information.

Can you imagine posting something like, "I'm going to be in Napa for Halloween. I'm going to leave my teen children at my home address of 1616 Mockingbird Lane for a long weekend. I think they're mature enough to handle it."

Nobody would post THAT. But people often post enough snippets of personal info that a bona-fide creep could piece everything together with enough effort. And bona-fide creeps always seem to have that kind of time.

What if someone else pays for your information?

This is exactly my point about getting rid of your personal entry on this site. Even at the cost of a (not necessarily your primary) email address. What about the fictitious information a potential credit extender or potential employer can easily gather on you at comparatively low cost or effort.

While true that much of the personal information available on this site is incorrect to the point of humor or ridicule, and is in the public record, why even allow any toe in the door of your privacy? Jim

Very good point. I just deleted my and DH's profiles. For those concerned about giving them your email....well, they already have so much info that it probably won't matter, BUT you might want to create an extra email address that you only use for online types of things, and that you don't care about getting rid of if it starts getting too much SPAM.

The site you refer to may be totally harmless, but I am extremely skeptical about any site that offers to do something for me at no cost. I don't like the fact that it requires entering url's into my computer that I am unfamiliar with and that it requests e-mail information. Shortened url's is a major problem for directing people to hacker sites. I will not check out that site out of a concern that it is a place for hackers to load my computer up with viruses and malware or to direct me to a site where my computer will be infected.

Viruses and malware are a problem. I don't believe that relying on anti-virus programs is good enough to protect my computer. I think the best defense is a heavy dose of skepticism and extreme caution.

I agree with you about hacker sites. But in this case, the URL they want you to enter is the basic page for your specific information.

FWIW: I checked myself there, and the only semi-accurate info they have on me (quite incomplete) is from public records in my county for the home I own. The personal info is just as wrong, but at least I'm in the same million dollar below market housing everyone else here is in. Seems like the website is only trying to get people to pay them for information. And if enough people do that, what a great way to make money for basically farming public information. I'm sure most people who have a FaceBook page have given away more information about themselves than what is on this page.

I did do the remove URL thing, just to check it out, but I used a spam-trap email address I only use for things like this. I doubt it'll go anywhere. we'll see.

Almost everything lists "unknown" in my profile.
Aparently I live with my other self (Mel, a female) who is married and owns the home. Don't know who her husband is, as we have a household of 1-2 people.

Neither of us is interested in politics, and we don't have any other interests either. They also don't have my husbank, his brother, or my brother. They have my parents' names and addresses but nothing else. All information that is readily available as part of a public record - they don't even have my phone number.

Someone is more than welcome to pay to get what information they have, accurate or not. Anyone who needs to information isn't going to be getting it from them.
