Any TUGgers from Delaware (or travel through often)? My daughter headed through the Dover and Biddles Plazas on her way to OCMD and didn't have a PA EZ Pass transponder with her. Turnpike tolls in PA are all cashless and same is true for traveling over Bay Bridge in MD. She must have thought the same was true in DE. Just got two separate Notice of Toll Violation letters in the mail. Each toll is $1. The State of Delaware added $50 to each!! ($25 Admin fee, $10 Ambulance fund, $15 Combat violent crime fee). So, $2 in tolls now costing $102. That seems a bit unreasonable to me. Looks as if she can (and will) appeal on the basis of having another toll authority EZ Pass account. Is Delaware that hard up for $$$$$ ?

Gotta fight that violent crime!

When you are traveling on the East Coast, suggestion only "always pack your EZ Pass Transponder. IMHO
You could saved some dollars in tolls fees and avoid some hefty tolls fines.

Our battery died in our ezpass and we got the same notice. On ours it had an online way to appeal with the ezpass. It went very smoothly.

I did not know that there was a battery in the EZ Pass Transponder . Thanks for the heads up.

Cameras in the toll lanes automatically take pictures of vehicles that pass through an E-ZPass lane without an E-ZPass.

The vehicle's license plate is run through the database of existing E-ZPass customers. If there is a match, the correct toll will be deducted from the customer's E-ZPass account.

If there is no match, the registered owner of the vehicle is mailed a violation notice requesting payment of the missed toll plus an administrative fee.

The administrative fee may be waived for first time offenders if the missed toll payment is made promptly.

Another Option is to sign up for Pay by Plate...

AHA! Earlier today on the WVA tpk we got this notice flashing yellow as we went thru the EZPass lane 2x: GO- Contact EXPass. Our transponder is very old so this could be the problem! DH will be contacting Ohio EZPass and I will share here what they say.

We had that same message once and it was due to a CC hack. We forgot to change the number on the pass.

Can't speak about your situation for sure but I encountered something similar so I went to EZ Pass office, they tested it, and replaced it with a new, slimmer, smaller version.

It's now working just fine.......

EZ passes do have a battery . I got stuck at a EZ pass booth on Staten Island . The toll paid message never came on, a toll clerk came over and scanned my EZ pass and told me to mail it back. They sent a new one.

After a lengthy time on hold, the Ohio EZ pass person who answered DH's call said that we received the "Call EZPass/Go" message because our vehicle wasn't affiliated with our transponder. Huh? We've owned this one since 2016 and the other since 2017, driven through numerous toll booths in OH, IN, IL,WV, NY, PA and Canada in the past 5 years without a problem. And we never realized that the EZPass was attached to a car not the person who purchased it and pays the tolls via their cc.

How would you know if your EZPass battery was about to give out? When you get a violation notice?

You really don't until you get the violation notice. We got two on a trip we went through 6 or 7 toll booths. It was easy to rectify since our car is registered to the transponder. I think the battery in ours lasted over 10 yrs.

Why would you not have the ez-pass? Mine never leaves the car. They are keyed to a plate number so you can't use them in multiple cars.

Not sure if that is true, I have 2 transponders and 4 vehicles on my account. Any of the transponders can and are used in any if the vehicles on my account

We also had 2 cars on 1 transponder. Not sure if that varies by state. This reminds me to make sure of the links for cars to transponders. If you are using your transponder in a car not linked to the transponder you will not get your toll violations negated. Also check every now and then. We traded a car in and 3 yrs later it somehow ended back up on our transponder list through the license plate. I assume when a lot of tolls went to by mail we noticed we were paying a few tolls for someone else.

I knew mine was getting close to expiring (battery issue) when one of the Toll Plaza flashed a "YELLOW LIGHT" (instead of the usual green light). I went to an EZ Pass office, they tested it, and replaced it for me at no charge.

Note; You won't have those green, yellow, or red flashing lights when you go thru one of those high speed (65 mph) lanes. But, you may encounter them when you go thru a traditional toll plaza gate. I think it may depend on what State you are in.......

Our county system allows one transponder for multiple cars but the adjoining county will send a toll violation for a mismatch. Why.do.they.care??? They got paid after all.

Ironically, NC has almost no toll roads, and I've never used my "NC Quick Pass" in NC. I got it once the NC system became compatible with EZPass, and I use it exclusively for trips up/down the east coast. The one that I'll be taking at the end of the month will be my 9th round trip since July 2020. #whereIwentduringCOVID
