Because of age I want to deed my timeshares at St John and Vistana Orlando to my brother. A timeshare lawyer I contacted said "Why would you want to do that to your brother, he will come to hate You?" Is it getting that bad to own timeshares?

Does your brother want to own your timeshares? That is the question. BTW - there isn't any "timeshare lawyer" specialty. Not sure who you contacted. If you and your brother agree that he wants to become the owner of your timeshares, then work with a transfer company like LT Transfers. On St. John you may have to hire a lawyer directly who can handle the legal work there. The USVI has its own process for deed transfers.

Is it Sheraton Vistana Resort, or Sheraton Vistana Villages? If it is Sheraton Vistana Resort than the timeshare is basically completely worthless (you can pick them up on ebay for $1 right now, and in some instances you can purchase it for negative money with the seller offering a cash incentive after closing), and really not worth owning given the cash price to book there through Marriott. If it's Sheraton Vistana Villages in one of the mandatory staroptions phases, then it might be worthwhile to give it to your brother depending on what he wants it for.

How close in age is he? Does he understand how timeshares work, and the ongoing responsibility?

Don't forget that Vistana does accept deedbacks. St John has high maintenance fees and Sheraton Vistana Resort has no resale value. On the other hand, if your weeks come with Star Options, you should check if they are transferable to your brother. If so, it maybe actually quite valuable to your brother. There are no fees to trade within the Vistana system, and also no exchange fees in II.

My SVR 2BR LO comes with 95,700 Star Options with maintenance fees of only $1500, which is a real bargain. It is much lower than Sheraton Vistana Villages. No Vistana/MVC Club trade fees and no trade fees in II and it has Vistana and Marriott II exchange priorities.

that sounds like something an exit company would say, and many of them pose as lawfirms or lawyers.

you can give back a vistana ownership for free if you dont want it.

marriott might even let you transfer to a blood relative for free if by chance he truly does want to take it over from you.
