hey tuggers --

this winter we are spending a week in a timeshare in palm desert -- on our way home we want to travel through death valley and spend a couple nights...

being the frugal tug person that i am, the accommodations at furnace creek is a bit more than we want to spend...

what are our lodging choices? we're even willing to camp -- has anyone camped in death valley in the winter -- is it too cold?

ANY sage guidance you can give is MUCH appreciated....

together tuggers KNOW EVERYTHING.....

gloria :).

Stovepipe Wells Village had decent accommodations ~ no complaints

We were there in April and stayed overnight in the Park during a trip to Las Vegas. It was clean and had everything we needed. There is a restaurant onsite. Whether or not it is open during the winter, you would need to check. There was a general store with a gas station, as well. It was in a good location for our sight-seeing.

We just wanted a place to sleep while in the Park and didn't feel the inclination to pay the prices for Furnace Creek.

Stovepipe Wells is basic, but we weren't looking for anything more. I would definitely recommend the accommdations.

Gloria,
A group of us have arranged a camping trip to Death Valley next March. We'll either be pulling trailers or sleeping in tents, and have decided on Furnace Creek Campground. You mention you don't want to spend that much on Furnace Creek, but did you mean Furnace Creek Ranch, or the campground--or some other accommodations?

For those of us staying in campgrounds, it appears FC Campground is centrally located for touring the park, and it gets good reviews. Only negative is it doesn't have showers, but you can go to Furnace Creek Ranch a few miles down the road and shower & use the pool.
