While looking for one thing in the docs, I found something else that looks interesting enough to raise another question ...

If you enroll your Weeks then you get an 800-Points bonus; these are defined as "Single Use Points" in the docs. We TUGgers have been saying all along that these points can't be banked/borrowed or transferred, but that a reservation made with them can be rented out to anyone. Well, now I'm not sure that's correct.

from the first paragraph on page 4 of the Program Exchange Procedures doc at my-vacationclub.com:
... The ability to reserve Accommodations by utilizing Single Use Points is a Special Benefit through the Program offered by Exchange Company. An Exchange Member who does not make a Deposit in a given calendar year is not entitled to utilize Single Use Points in such calendar year. The ability to utilize Single Use Points for reservations may not be available for all Accommodations. If Single Use Points are used to make a reservation, additional fees may be required to complete the reservation. The ability to use Single Use Points to reserve Accommodations is not available for Guests’ reservations if unaccompanied by a Member or a Family Member of the Member. ...

and from Page 3, Section C on page 3 of that same document:
... All or a portion of the Distribution may be used to make reservations for one or more of: (i) the Member; (ii) Family Members or Guests staying in separate Accommodations at the same Component during the same period as a Member residing there; or (iii) Family Members or Guests staying in an Accommodation without the Member present. ...

So the docs specifically state that if we reserve something with Single Use Points then we Members must occupy the units with our guests, but if we reserve something with our Trust or Legacy Points then our guests can occupy the units without us.

I think this means that we've been getting this wrong, that we cannot rent out reservations made with the 800-Point enrollment bonus. Hmmmm.

If this is correct, it isn't how MVCI is doing in practice. Several people on here have made reservations with the 800 PlusPoints and added someone else's name to the confirmation. So while the documents may prohibit it, it doesn't seem that MVCI is enforcing it. Not uncommon.

Yep, wouldn't exactly be out of the realm of possibility for Marriott to allow practices that appear to be prohibited by the docs. ;) But I've been one of the folks on TUG saying that we're allowed to rent out reservations made with the 800 bonus points, and now I'm wondering where we got that idea from to begin with. And if we should still be advising it - maybe with a caveat?

Sue,

Wasn't the 800 points a one time bonus for enrolling? How many people would still be sitting on those points two years later?

The bonus and enrollments are ongoing, so I'd guess there are still folks out there who are sitting on the 800 points. Plus, with the price increase coming up on 6/14 we may be seeing enrollments by folks who until now have been undecided.
