A couple of years ago, my wife and I visited Washington, D.C. toward the end of the Cherry Blossom Festival. When our plane landed at Reagan International Airport, it was raining and windy. We decided to forego visiting the Tidal Basin that day to see the Cherry Blossoms and decided to visit the next day. Well, much to our chagrin, most of the Cherry Blossoms were gone. Had we gone the day before, we would have witnessed the last day of the Cherry Blossom Peak Bloom - the wind was not our friend.

We took a Potomac River Cruise which departed from Georgetown - a fun cruise and a good way to see the Cherry Blossoms if they are in bloom.

I'm also very excited as we too will be staying at the Old Town Resort in Alexandria from the 19th to the 26th. I checked last weekend and they were predicting the peak from the 31st to the 3rd of April. I was hoping that the warm weather would move it up a few days and looks like I got my wish. Deb from NC if you want to meet another tugger pm me and we can maybe have a drink or dinner.

We haven't gone to see the flowers in years; so went today. It was a perfect day. The blossoms are at their peak and haven't started dropping petals yet. It was not hot, nor too cool. There was not a cloud in the sky. Somehow it just wasn't as wonderful as I remembered it. The first time we went to see them years ago was the morning after an ice storm and the early blossoms that year were sparkling and glistening with ice. That year there was almost nobody else there when we went and it was just magical.

This year it was easy getting there. We drove to the New Carrollton metro and parked free in the garage. The metro wasn't crowded, but oh boy was the Tidal Basin and Mall crammed with people. Don't think we'll be doing that trip again.

It was thick with people like this all the way around the Tidal Basin. You can see them on the other side in front of the Jefferson Memorial...happy, light spirited people, but gridlock on foot and cars at every intersection. People were crazy to think they could drive through DC today :D
