Just posted on the Westgate Facebook page;

"It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of David Alan Siegel, Founder and Executive Chairman of Westgate Resorts, at the age of 89. David’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a visionary leader in the hospitality industry is nothing short of extraordinary.
From his early childhood days of delivering newspapers to building Westgate into the largest privately owned timeshare company in the world, David never stopped dreaming big. His entrepreneurial spirit, relentless drive, and belief in the American dream helped shape one of the most recognized hospitality brands in the country.
David was a generous leader, a champion for his team, and a passionate advocate for addiction prevention following the tragic loss of his daughter Victoria. His work led to national awareness efforts, legislative change, and life-saving access to resources like Naloxone.
David was predeceased by his daughter Victoria, son Steven, brother Norman, and his parents Sidney and Sadelle. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, nine children, two stepdaughters, twelve grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and his brother Barry. His legacy lives on through them, through Westgate’s 8,500+ Team Members, and through the countless lives touched by his work and generosity.
A celebration of life will be held for those who wish to honor his memory and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Victoria’s Voice Foundation. Please go to

May he receive the reward in the after life which he so richly deserves. ;)

Did his personal mansion ever get done?

That guy had more money than he knew what to do with, and much of it on the backs of people who regretted their choices to purchase but no way to get out of it without spending even more money, payable by check to Wastegate. Despicable company.

My stepsister and her husband were very young when they bought, and I did my best to talk to them about the purchase, telling them to walk away from the payments, but they wanted to buy a house and didn't want their credit dinged. They paid a lot for the privilege of keeping that stupid one bedroom at Westgate Lakes.

She is 15 years younger than me, so of course I felt terrible they were stuck with this week.

I think that it was more his wife's.

I saw her on a couple of episodes of "Below Deck" and she has absolutely no class. Yes, I realize that it's "reality" TV, but sometimes your real talent shows through.

We own Wastegate because our first timeshare, Ramada Vacation Suites, was assimilated by the BORG after bankruptcy.

Is this sad news?

Good Riddance. As I saw this I am pissed at Amazon for charging me for two years of prime with no receipts and not allowing me to use my gift card balance to purchase a $500 item. If the same Jeff bezos passed I would feel the same. No sympathy for criminals. I would mention more but then people here would want to delete my post.

More than this I get bounced around from person to person with no effort to resolve or care to resolve. Just set up to maximize profits. A lot more are on this list.

While I don't like his corporate persona, he lived in his own prison after burying a child. I wish that on nobody.

Hmmm....Will the heirs of his estate have the burden of requesting deedbacks and paying excessive fees, or walking from the timeshare deeds he owned?

Also watch Below Deck and agree on lack of class.

Deleted. Too cynical.

My follow-up question would be, what happens to their under-construction mansion. Does Jackie and family continue to build, or do they give up this money-pit?

Perhaps it will get finished now. Hard to tell. He seemed to want to hold the purse strings on it. One of those things where you only put in so much money at a time and it takes forever to build. Kinda like the Majesty Building in Altamonte Springs.

Maybe, his spouse will receive enough insurance funds to complete the project in his memory.

That is truly an eyesore on I-4; dioxide45, IMHO, that Majesty Building story /history is one amazing story.

Meh, who needs a house that big. I recall from the TV show that the columns and circular staircase features would now be considered dated. Convert it into a timeshare and sell the rooms.

Have you been to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC that was built in the early 1900’s ?

Will the documentary "Queen of Versailles" become a cult classic ?

He will be required to sit through an eternity of timeshare presentations before he is let through the Pearly Gates

As we say here in the South...
He may be going to heaven or hell, but he'll have to change planes in Atlanta, first.
... which is it's own version of hell.
