Just returned from Cypress Harbor, first visit since 2019. The Resort Hub mentions

"Construction Updates​

Please be advised that there is off-site construction surrounding the resort."

That is a massive understatement. Huge swaths of woods have been clear cut on nearly every side. Some new townhouses are nearly complete, while other construction is just starting. There is another area with huge piles of dirt and pipes that looks like a new road going in, but can't tell for sure. This is on the way to be another high density residential neighborhood

Many CP buildings are now very exposed to residential construction and lack privacy. The previously secluded areas of the resort tucked away here and there that we enjoyed to sit and just escape Orlando chaos are no more.

We saw the same thing happen at Canyon Villas, much to the detriment of our enjoyment there. Renters and owners of nearby neighborhoods use the resort as their playground, as there is no one from Canyon Villas monitoring who is a legitimate guest, and who is not. We finally sold CV on 2022 because of this. Our last visit there was a nightmare.

Will be interested to see how MVC manages access going forward at Cypress Harbor.

This has been coming for several years (maybe ten plus??) since the golf course closed. That land had to be developed. I think it looked worse as a dilapidated golf course then a developed residential (more a rental) neighborhood. Not sure what forests were there - it was a golf course.

I'm sure the same worries happened when the apartment complex was built along Westwood Blvd.

The entire Orlando area is one giant construction project. I would never expect to go there for a peaceful retreat unless you are used to Manhattan.

At least Cypress Harbour has a staffed secured entry gate. Canyon Villas doesn't.

Agree. I know people love Canyon Villas, but the open access made it less enjoyable to us.

Looking at a January or February stay. I have other options at Grande Vista and Harbor Lake but those are 1 bedrooms. Be nice to stretch out in a 2 bedroom.

The MVC Destination Escapes just added nearly entire January 2025 with very low point values. Must be a sign of of low demand, I am guessing.

Here currently. No impacts from the surrounding construction. The WB-SB flyover from Central Florida Parkway to I4 reopened recently.

Cypress Harbour has long been an exceptionally well managed resort. In Cypress Harbour's early years, the resort had an exceptional HOA Board. For at least 15 years that I can remember, Cypress Harbour has had an exceptional General Manager.

Hopefully, Cypress Harbour has a long-term plan to hide that apartment community with tall, wide landscaping.

That whole “arrival experience” at Canyon Villas, in my opinion, is a problem. The single, vehicle entry point to Canyon Villas, is immediately adjacent to a very pedestrian-busy area (at the Reception Building, Fitness Center, and main pool), with a lot of foot traffic, and conflicting, motor vehicles. One can only hope, one day, that MVC reengineers that “arrivals (and departures) experience,” at Canyon Villas.

Do you have building/unit recommendations?

They all seem to be identical. I guess it depends if you want to be closer to the pool or the activities areas or not. We were in 66 last year and 71 this year.

Hopefully, Cypress Harbour has a long-term plan to hide that apartment community with tall, wide landscaping.
Why? It is the parking lots and cars that should be hidden. Not housing units.

We spend a month there every spring - very well-managed resort for sure. Brandon Smith is the GM now (about two years now, I think) and he's always wondering around helping out with stuff and will stop to talk with owners. I've emailed back and forth and he's been very responsive.

We typically ask for building 73, which faces south and overlooks one of the smaller ponds. It's a bit of a hike to the main building but a short walk to the soccer "field", activities area, pickelball court, and island pool.

The new one? If so, I think it is. It's designed as an investment / rental community (some houses have 12-15 bedrooms!!).

If you mean Cypress Harbour, then yes with a security guard station. They had to knock down some of the fencing for the construction of the surrounding community but I'm assuming that will be set back up with additional landscaping.

Yeah. My daughter lives in one just south of Cypress Harbour.

Yes! Cypress Harbour. We have not stayed at this resort but I’m now looking at this resort base upon your comments.
We've stayed here twice and like the resort. Well maintained and the employees here are excellent. Very well run.
