Custom House Bundle w/ DC pts ?

I recently heard from a MVC sales rep about a Custom House (Gold week) bundle that yields 4475 points at an overall price that is less than $7/point. It's a bit unusual and I would welcome your comments/input/suggestions:

Where do the points for the week come from? The general thinking seems to be that RTU resorts don't work well in a Land Trust and from what I can tell from this thread, there are no Custom House weeks in the trust.

Another oddity about this bundle is that this week does not require a matching number of Trust Points (2475 from the week and 2000 Trust Points).

What questions would you be asking about this option if you were considering it?

I would agree. That is probably why they don't require a matching amount of trust points. The MFs on those weeks make them very unattractive.

According to the MF spreadsheet is is $1,657.77. Platinum gets 2975 DC points and gold gets 2475. So platinum costs over $0.55 per point and gold is worse. So renting points is better when you factor in buying the week up front.

On a recent trip to Hawaii, I almost purchased a similar bundle offering, but the week was platinum. In the end, I decided not to because the MFs make it not worth it to me. Another negative is we would not use Custom House each year. Here is the link to my thread if it helps. Seems like they are trying to offload Custom House. Not necessarily, the platinum week bundle remains a good buy if you need to upgrade to a higher tier levels, i.e Executive and Presidential.

I was just in HH this past weekend and did attended a Marriott presentation at their new Sales Gallery across the street from Grande Ocean. Wow, what a beautiful facility. I thought I had walked into a Spa. I guess they are doing pretty well, especially in that location to warrant the type of investment.

We are Chairman level members and really attended the presentation due to the high "incentive" of 50,000 MRP plus a $25 Marriott Voucher (we were staying at the Marriott Hotel and Resort this trip). We had no intention of buying anything.

Our sales rep was very respectful of our time and our standing with MVCI. He even showed us a Smiley Face that was stamped prominently on his "dossier" about us, which he had obviously read, indicating we are good customers aka "suckers in the past".

After going through the pitch without much enthusiasm for coming up with a reason for us to buy more points at $13.05 (discounted to $11.08), I asked him about resale weeks and a bundle. He immediately got interested and went to check what was available. I asked for a couple of specific resorts including Frenchman's Cove in St. Thomas, and he came back with the entire list. After going through a few possibilities (St. Thomas had nothing), we thanked him very much and told him we weren't interested. He did say that Marriott would soon stop offering the bundles, but who knows if and when that will happen.

We were traveling with friends who went a couple of days later to their sales presentation. We told them to ask about the bundles. They ended up buying a week at Fort Lauderdale OceanPlace, which is a lockoff, along with a matching 2,000 points. This enabled them to reach President's Level status, which was their goal. The week cost $6,200 (not sure what season it was) and the matching 2000 points were at the $11.08 discounted price. In addition, they gave them $1,500 off for the cost of their trip to HH, although it wasn't on an encore package. 50,000 MR points were also given on the week purchase. He put the whole thing on his Marriott Rewards credit card so he will earn about another 140,000 MR points from the transaction.

All in, his cost per point came out at about $6.70. May still be a lot of money, but was a pretty good way to achieve their goal of President level and add to their portfolio of DC points.

Yeah Bazzap, we were surprised too...that was the only reason we agreed to do it as I had never seen that high an incentive for 90 minutes of our time.
It must have been a slow week and they needed to get more bodies in the door. In fact, our impression from this big beautiful new sales office with tons of seating areas for guest was that the place was pretty empty for an 8:30 am presentation time. We only booked this a few days before we arrived in HH.

The 50,000 MRP hit our account this week, less than a week after our tour. We're going back to HH in late August and I doubt we will get a similar offer.
