Currently open at Marriott in Maui

I was on Maui for almost 2 months, just got home yesterday. I was in the original building for 5 weeks and I bought a portable double burner for $20, well worth the money spent, you may want to consider it. I gave it away before I left for home.

We thought about that too and if we were here more than 2 weeks may have have done the same.

The solution we have found for any situation like this (i.e anywhere with a microwave and no stove top) is this extremely handy implement. It is wonderful for cooking fish and it is the only thing we use at home for seafood (would undoubtedly grill meat too). My husband even figured out how to scramble eggs in it while we have been here.

We always travel with a couple of things to unfamiliar kitchens (including flying to Hawaii with the above) - at least one really sharp kitchen knife and a pair of scissors (although more and more resort kitchens have scissors these days).

I bought a griddle on Amazon.com, an electric griddle, keep it in the box and take it on vacations with us, especially when there is no stove. Now if I could just bring a crockpot with me. :)

I think I read somewhere on TUG that at least one resort had a crockpot you could request!

There are all kinds of things in resort housekeeping departments that are not stock in the kitchens, but that they have. I know for a fact that the last time we were in WKORV they had rice cookers that could be requested. I have also requested pizza cutters, pitchers for water, and since we have been here we have requested a covered glass dish for microwaving asparagus and vegetables and they brought one right up. I just call now; all they can say is they don't have those (whatever "those" is). They may have crock pots!

They have also closed the ice machines and these refrigerator do not have an ice dispenser but they will bring you a bag of ice by calling.

I read the same recently, the crockpot was at Maui Marriott which was news to me. Based on your comments I will ask before I buy something next time.

Guests often leave things in the rooms and the resorts will store them. The lesson is to always ask or a crockpot, extra coffee pot, crib or just about anything that one can think of that might possible be in a timeshare just to be sure.

I thought about doing that but didn't as I was afraid I'd set off fire alarms and sprinklers as those units don't have normal cooking facilities !

Most MVCs I have been at have fans over the stove that simply empty back into the room above the microwave, they do not vent to the exterior. I'm always bummed about this, especially when cooking something smoky like bacon.

I can't say formally for Marriott but some timeshares ban things like portable burners, tabletop grills and electric skillets.

Funny / embarrassing story.. Last Sunday, on our first morning at MOC I woke up early and cooked a nice breakfast with eggs and sausage.. Just as i was finishing the cooking I setoff the smoke alarm in the unit.. Security calls on the phone, i verify everything is Ok, just cooking. 2 mins later maintenance shows up to check..

Then a supervisor shows up and has them turn all of the ceiling fans to high and adds a giant circulator fan to our room. I mention that that the ceiling fan in the living room wobbles if you turn it up too high, but the supervisor says that's fine..

About 15 mins later, there is a loud noise as the ceiling fan breaks loose from the ceiling, drops down about 2 feet and then starts rapidly twisting itself around the wires.. i dodged the spinning blades and shut the fan off, then called for maintenance once we left for the day..

It was all Ok in the end, but not exactly a relaxing first day of vacation.. I have been super cautious about cooking all week now..

We are currently in MOC-Napili for next two weeks. A few other noteworthy items: Napili Tower upper level parking is being worked on so only lower level is available. Good news is no more valet parking so those slots are available but very high probability that you'll still be parking at Lahaina. Also, the garage now just reads your license plate number - no need to use your room key. So make sure you register your car license plate properly at check-in. (They do have a security person button who can let you in.) Towels are only available in the shack that's in the main pool. So a longer walk if staying at Napili. Mask police are around but very nice about it, like most staff at MOC...always have a very strong Aloha attitude. A lot fewer bellpersons and they aren't allowed to enter your room anymore. Also, no more mid-week tidy although you can request linen, bathroom items, etc from housekeeping. You leave your dirty towels outside the door and they leave new ones outside. Gym is open 7 am - 4 pm but room keys don't work anymore. There is a staffer that takes names and let you in if quota for number of people in room hasn't been reached yet. The person also periodically cleans equipment. Only 6 persons at any time in weight room. Towels still available and plenty of wipes (at WKORN, gym did not have any towels!) but no water. Also, it seems like only one out of every 3 pieces of equipment are available to promote social distancing. We also noticed that many guests were being allowed to use those luggage carts that bell persons use...just like at the Waiohai and MKO. Business center closed but the front desk can print stuff for you if you email them the document. Grills working (they actually put some dividers between the grills) but the chairs/tables by the Napili grills have been removed.

I am planning my usual Sunday bacon, eggs and pancake breakfast and hopefully, the alarm doesn't go off and the ceiling fan doesn't try to decapitate me. Thank you 1Kflyerguy for your hilarious post!

Sounds wonderful, we have an exchange early May into the new section "Marriott’s Maui Lahaina & Napili Villas", and according the the room code we have a 2 bedroom, OF unit, (HZZTQ). Does this resort honor the exchange view that you received through II? Thanks. We were hoping to have our vaccines before we travel but looks like that's probably not going to happen, did you all feel safe on the flights and at the airport in route to Hawaii, we will be traveling from the east coast. Also, how full were your flights?

Generally you get the view category of your week, but not guaranteed.

Is your week enrolled? If not and you didn’t purchase eplus it will cost you a new exchange fee to retrade.
In any case you can click retrade button next to your exchange and have a look around to see if you find something you that might work better for you.

Pamplemousse--Thanks for the reply. Yes our weeks are enrolled--I am not concerned with the fee--I am wondering if I wait until June ( in the hope the Border rules may change by then and I will not need to retrade ) ---will I only be able to see trades for 30 days out or will I still be able to see retrade possibilities into 2022 as I can now. So looking to know what retrade rules are once you enter the FlexTrade periods.

Are the pots induction compatible? I read the common kitchen has induction burners so I was thinking about picking up an induction hot plate. Got an OV 1 BR.

When we go to Morritts Tortuga for 6 weeks I pack a crockpot from Target ($25)

The pots in the unit are induction compatible. We take an induction hot plate and use the pots in the unit.

We just got back yesterday from 2 weeks in Maui. I've traded into MOC through Interval 7 or 8 times and they have always honored the view code, both good and bad.

Also, how full were your flights?
Our flights on Hawaiian were maybe 80% full, maybe less. Everyone is wearing a mask at the airport and on the flight, but there is little to no social distancing when getting on or off the plane.
