OP, if not too much trouble, could you get current pricing, including Holiday and Plat+? Also, the current point incentive levels for purchase and ongoing surrender. They increased the latter a year or two ago and I'm curious as to what's going on. TIA :)

Pat

Pat, he said they are doing a "push" for the last phase. He quoted the Plat. at $32,000. Since he knew upfront we would not be buying that, he quickly changed to trying to sell us an EOY at a resort with less MF he said that purchase would come w/ $150,000 pts. then added some for this and that, by the time he was finished deciding it should also go on our black MR visa, he had it to $300,000 for a property they said was $9,500. (We didn't buy anything). So, I can't really answer your pt question or what a Plat. + is currently running. Sorry.

Just curious about things to do for a family. The ocean is really too cold to swim in correct? Do most people hang around the pool or the beach (I heard its down the cliff to the beach).

I know Disneyland and LA is not that far away for activities but is there really enough to do in the area to occupy a week?

We have considered a week at NCV but obviously its a long way from NJ!!!

Thanks.

That's good information, thank you :) It would appear that Plat is now static over the last year, based on information I have.

Interesting that they would push EOY at another resort. We bought during the post-9/11 slowdown and never heard anything like that. Did they try to get any referrals from you?

Andar: Are your Getaways thru II? If not, how do you get them? TIA

NCV Getaways have all been through II. I admit I am often up late at night and that seems to be the best time to get them. Often, by morning or mid day they are gone.

Yesterday, I did not see any, but last week there were two different weeks.

I also use DAE, Trading Places International, SFX, and of course Tug for rentals. The most expensive was $700 for a week where we had to have a specific location and date for a wedding. The least expensive was
$149 for the week in ARNOLD where we stayed during a move - our home we sold closed and the one being buildt was not ready for a couple of weeks (we spent one week at NCV and one at Arnold).

The other idsclaimer is we are retired and can travel anytime. The best deals are the few weeks before the date:whoopie:

There is a world of things to do besides the standard, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wildlife Park, Sea World, Legoland, a new one next to Legoland (sorry, I forgot the name), boardwalks beaches, etc.

We went to Huntington Beach about 10 miles north. The water was really warm and there were swimmers without wet-suits and of course lots of surfers with wet suits. The water seemed warm.

You can take a ferry to Catalina Island for the day. While watch. We watched the dolphins playing no more than 4-5 feet out in the waves at Crystal Cove.

Yesterday we were at Crystal Cove just down from NCV. The water seemed colder. There are tide pools there the kids always enjoy. They also have a very small visitors center. One activity for kids is to 'grow' giant seaweed for the underwater preserve. They take a tongue depressor write their name on it and then seaweed cells are added. The depressor is added to a tank with their name showing. Then volunteer divers take it out to the underwater preserve and transplant it there when it is ready.

There are lots of museums and children interactive things. See link for children's museum close by ( http://www.orangecounty.net/html/museums.html)
Balboa Island is only a couple of miles away and while you can drive onto it (it is really a peninsula) the kids love to drive the car on the ferry for the 5-10 minute ride there.

Fashion island is close ( http://www.shopfashionisland.com/Info/Fashion-Island-Newport-Ctr-Newport-Beach-Ca.aspx ) and even if you are not a shopper, the kids would love to ride the giant carousal.

There is also a lot of activities at the resort for children so you really don't even have to leave and they would have a great time. I posted the schedule for the adult and family activities for the week at the resort above but their is probably 3 or 4 times the activities for children 2-5 and 5-12 years of age.

So, yes, there is PLENTY to do for a week. Our week goes by so fast we keep renting more to come back!

BTW, we have the same last name

I hope that helps, feel free to PM me too.

Staying at NCV is staying at a great resort near the ocean. BUT the main reason most people visit NCV is to do all the LA things. Go to Disney, Knott's Berry, Long Beach, take a ferry out to Catalina OR Drive into LA and do the Getty or Universal. Plus you can explore all the CA beach towns.

OR you can just stay around the resort, walk to the ocean each day (there are four or five praved walkways down to the beach.) Sit on the patio and read. Sit by the pool ect. BUT yes you're right, most of the year, swimming the ocean is out of the question.

It was interesting that they tried the EOY. I think that is because we own here and really would only come here as we don't fly and can only drive so far for vacation.

He knew he was not going to sell us anohter week at developer price so changed to try to buy EOY lock-off in Orlando and trade the studio and 1 bdrm for an extra week each year at NCV. When I asked if he could guarantee I could trade each time for NVC he responded "hey, there are no guarantees in life"

Good plan, except perhaps the Orlando part, but again, why buy through the developer when we don't use lots of pts. We can't use all the pts we get on our black visa. It was probably an okay deal for someone but did not fit us.

No they did not try and get referrals from us. Although he did tack on some points to his EOY year purposal for "self referral"

I don't want this to sound negative because obviously I absolutely LOVE NCV. As I said in another post we have spent 3-4 weeks a year here for the last 3 years. We own one week (bought resale) and have rented the rest.

There is currently a NCV on Interval Getaway for Dec. 14th - 21st at $524 for the week!
checked back at 11:18 it is gone.

We are already booked here for that week or I would grab it. I am currently sitting out on the balcony looking at the ocean and playing on the computer with my cup of coffee.

Also, I just got the update from Goldstar for events in this area, so for those that asked about things to do check out this link:
www.goldstar.com and then enter the zp code for Newport Coast, CA 92657

I live in Southern California and I would love to own or stay at that resort. Sometimes we stay at the Marriott Newport Beach for the weekend when we just want to get away to a beautiful place and a relaxing atmosphere. It is in one of the nicest areas of Southern Calfornia and I really feel like i'm on vacation, even if i'm just 45 minutes from home. Bottom line, there is plenty to do if you want, and it's nice enough to just enjoy the atmosphere.

Pat

Pat,

This is direct pricing as of 10/5/08 with Marriott Rewards Trade Value in parentheses. I don't have the purchase incentives.

Platinum Plus - $40,800 (125,000 EY)
Platinum - $33,500 (110,000 EY)
Holiday - $38,100 (125,000 EY)
Gold - $30,000 (100,000 EY)

It's interesting that Andar was quoted $32K for Platinum by the local sales staff.

Thanks for the scoop on the activities and 4500 Bldg. I requested a top floor, after Summer 2007 in a sleepless bottom unit with ceiling noise all day and night.
We stayed in a top floor unit of the 4500 building in July. It had great views. I think it had the best views of that strip of buildings because you didn't see the parking lot like the first two, and we had a great view of the golf course and could still see the ocean, unlike the last two buildings. Can I post pics here? I will if it's possible.

Thanks for the advise on room location. My mom just checked in today and we were assigned to the 4400 bldg, top floor and she loves the room!!! She said it has a great view but they just missed the sunset.

I can't wait to go with my girlfriends on Thurs. I love the Newport Coast / Laguna !

It was so windy and cold today (well, relatively speaking for southern california) at NCV! It blew my headband off my head! We were visiting friends who were staying at the resort and I am always amazed by how beautiful the resort looks.

If you are arriving soon, it is supposed to go back to 80 degrees in a couple of days.
